Michael Berumen Obituary
He was a gentle individual. Had a passion for music, oldies but goodies were one of his favorites. He would search antique stores looking for albums of the great ones. He understood why this type of music continues to live so long. And because he loved music he became a DJ, not professionally but whenever there was a need. Family and friends, would have get togethers and he would DJ their parties, as his gift to them. He seemed to become another person when he DJ'd. His smile would light up the room, and when he felt the beat, he would go out and dance away with joy. He was also known for putting together a CD or two for those he loved.
Another passion was restoring his 1971 El Camino. One that his father and older brother never succeeded to do. He was determined to be the one to finish what they started. So Michael, guided by his mentor Jim, worked hard on it. He would even post pictures, on Facebook with each step he took. He would say, "Soon I'll have this car out on the road and I will take my nephews out for a cruise."
He didn't have much money but, to us, he was rich as a son, brother, uncle and friend. He will be missed by many!
He was the youngest of five children, of Alfredo and Frances Berumen.
He is preceeded in death by his grandfather, Manuel Berumen, grandparents Irene and Lelo Salinas, brother Gilbert Berumen, Uncle Alfonso Salinas, aunt Josie Salinas, his nino Gilbert Delgado and his cat Kit Kitty.
He is survived by: Alfredo Berumen Sr. - father Frances Berumen - mother. Siblings: Freddie Berumen Jr. (partner Hector) Richard Berumen (daughter Lylee) Irene Berumen (sons, Jaymz and Jaden) Denise Cantu (son, Arthur). grandma Maria Berumen (daughter Socorro), aunt Lydia Padilla (sons Richard, Rocky and daughter, Destinee), uncle George Berumen (son Manuel).
Rosary will be Thursday March 20, 2014 7 p.m. - Mass, Saturday March 22, 2014 12 p.m. Both at St. Anthonys Church, 2511 S C St, Oxnard, CA Internment to follow at Santa Clara Cementary, Oxnard.

My Michael Man..... I can still hear your compliments to me as I pick myself apart right before a party. Your gentle voice saying "Auntie Lydia you are beautiful just the way you are". I miss your smile, your paparazzi picture taking, and most of all the music you so loved and played for me. The kids all miss you, and leave you little things at the memorial we have for you at home. Never will we ever forget the beautiful family moments we had with you Michael. Love you to the heavens.... where we will hug each other again.

It's been 5 years since you left us mijo and the emptiness is still there but like Sister Sara Michael once said "That's the prize one pays for loving" We honored your anniversary yesterday (Sunday) with mass then breakfast then a visit to the cemetery. We went to your dad's house and chilled out for a while. The kids went on to doing one of your favorite things, bowling. I didn't go but Irene said they had a great time, that you were with them the whole time even saving them the last lane they had available. Afterwards they went to one of your favorite restaurants, the Yard House. There were 18 of them and they managed to get sited just in time because a group of 15 came in right after. Wow!
Having family together was very important to you, I know you were smiling the whole time we were all together mijo. You haven't been forgotten. I carry you in my heart every precious minute of my day. Hug hug!!!!!

Dear Uncle Michael I am tring to stay together but I just can't help it. Everyone love's you but I'm your biggest fan. I love the Simpsons as well. You were a special man. I love you soooo much I hope you have a great life in heaven. Let James Brown be with you hahaha and as Homer would say haaam. Lol Before I say my last words I want to say "Get up off of that thing, it makes yourself feel better"! and "You nead a haircut".

Oh Michael Man………as I sit here and gather all the things that I want to say to you I'm surrounded by all the visual memories and the musical memories you have left behind, but nothing will ever replace your physical presence. I want to go through memory lane with you; all the things I will never forget….. The day mom & dad brought you home and we were so happy to have a baby brother in the house, the countless nights of me laying on the floor and rubbing your back through the crib to help you sleep when you woke up crying. How YOUR stuffed teddy bear Love-Love was everything to you, so much that you slept with and carried him everyday. How you always wanted to do what your brothers and sisters were doing, no matter if it was to go to a friends or just to the mall. Going with me to my dance practices and me realizing that you found as much joy from dancing as I did; to later on finding out we were great dance partners. Having you tag along with me when I would go to Fresno and then introducing you to some DJ friends where I believe you found your passion and love for music. I will never forget you showing me your first turn table and finally self teaching yourself to become a knowledgeable DJ using ONLY vinyl, all that computer nonsense wasn't your thing. LOL Sharing your first mix with me and seeing how happy you were with your progress. All of the music trivia questions in person, over the phone, by text or Voxer. All of the DJ Neibor CD's you made me and waiting for my review.
The moment I told you that you were going to be an uncle and of course that magical moment when you held Jaymz in your arms. You were in ah and couldn't wait to teach him all the things you knew and dreamed for him. Your encouraging words for Jaymz at his graduation bbq where you were so positive and made sure he was self confident in who he was and what he was capable of doing. Then 12 years later the moment I told you that you were going to be an uncle AGAIN, when you held Jaden in your arms for the first time, gazing into his eyes and excited that you get to influence him with all your knowledge all over again. All the times you helped me with both of your nephews and how excited they were to be with “their” Uncle Michael. Being able to see how happy it would make you when you would spend time with your younger cousins, nephews & niece. I will never forget when we moved in together both starting a new chapter in our lives. This is where I witnessed you becoming a handsome and intelligent young man, determined and an authority on the things you knew even if you only knew just a little.
Oh and I can't forget your child like humor and excitement the way you would cleverly answer at dads “The Berumen Residence” or at moms with “Reeeeenie”, greet your nephews with “Baby Baymz” or “It's the Jaaaaaden”. These were classic! I can't forget how much family gatherings meant to you, how your eyes would light up when we were ALL together enjoying great music, good food and making memories.
Lastly Michael……….. I will never forget the last kiss you gave me on my cheek followed with an “I love you Renie” before you exited my car after I dropped you off that wonderful Sunday I had with you & Freddie. I will cherish every single moment I had with you; never forget your warmth from your embrace and your enormous heart. We will dance again Michael….. just on a higher level.

Well mejio, today is the last day we can post. I miss you so much that it hurts just thinking about how much. I feel your presence all the time. Letting me know that you are at peace. And that you are watching over us.
This Easter Sunday will be the first holiday without you. You would be so proud of how we all want to be together. I remember having to hold things up so you could make on time, being that you worked on Sundays. Now you will be the first one here...oh, I even bought you some Cadbury eggs, your favorite. Tears tears...I'm Sure I can find some one to eat them for you.....
If I know Grandma Irene, she will have you, grandpa, aunt Josie, Gilbert and anybody else up there, praying for us and please do,we need them, yes we do.

Hola little brother Michael Man…It's me Fredlander, Fiesta Fred, Toto... Here we are nearly a month since we laid you to rest. I miss you so very much and I always will. My whole being aches without you here. I am so heartbroken. Every waking moment, I think and feel you present in the sky, birds chirping, a hummingbird, a guy on a dirt bike, plaid shirts, DJ Music, oh and how can I forget the Hennessey. You would be really proud of us right now, Mom, Dad, Richard, Irene, and Necie, we have been there for each other every day. Every day Michael, we lift each other up with love and kindness. Isn't that the coolest !!
Michael, you lived the life of Aunt Josie's adage, "People will forget what you say. People will forget what you do. But they will never forget how you made them feel"... I have witnessed so much love and admiration of others for you and the family. You had the unique ability to bring out the best in people. Your nephews say that you made them feel “Awesome”, that they could just be themselves around you. You always gave others a lending hand, a listening ear, and big shoulders to cry and lean on… As for me, you ‘Moved Me'… throughout the years, you always reminded me how to stop and listen, to laugh and love, and most of all, to say I love you !!
To my family, it seems lately that even when I try to go to that sad place missing our Michael Man, something happens that is a clue that Michael is around... like a James Brown song, Bart Simpson, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles or even hearing someone say one of his catch phrases. It's like he is trying to tell me, “What's wrong, ya can't hang?”… lol... but reality is that my world is different, it sure looks and sounds different... I am different, we all are different... I believe that through Michael's death we are emerging better sons and daughters of God... a closer family of love... something Michael always longed for - the exciting, exhilarating, fun loving unity of FAMILY :)

Oh Michael...I don't even know where to begin. You were an amazing person, with a smile that could brighten anyone's day! You had an incredibly witty personality, a heart so full of love you were able to make all of us feel so special when we were around you. Where do I begin? To my Berumen family, my brothers Fred and George, sister in law Frances, my nephews Freddie, Richard, my nieces Irene, Denise, my sister Socorro, and my Mom. How do I comfort you all in this oh so very painful time? My heart is heavy, and my tears flow everyday for our beloved Michael Man. He was a loving soul, with so much love in his heart, always giving, eager to help all of us in any way he could. He loved each and every part of his family, making sure he spent as much time as he could with us. I still can remember the day that you came home to us. My heart was filled with tremendous joy!! A baby all for me to take care of =) You brought so much happiness to our family we all helped in the responsibilities of taking care of you. As we got older we drifted apart living our own everyday lives. But we still managed to do some fun things together like get tattoos on your birthday every year... You even became my personal handyman, babysitter and even DJ lol.. One thing I can tell you is that you were not only a great brother but an even better uncle. I can still remember Frances walking through the parking lot at St. Anthony's School. She carried her guitar and was either coming or going to the school to share her gift of music. We were in 7th or 8th grade and she was pregnant with Michael. Frances was instilling in him the gift and love of music! What a joy. You are all in my continuous prayers. Much love during this time.
