Michael George Brahm

Michael George Brahm, 74, of Mason City, passed away September 8th, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. The funeral will be on Thursday, September 18th at 11am, located at Harbor of New Hope Church, 804 N Tyler Ave, Mason City, Iowa. In true Michael fashion, please join us in your comfiest clothes or your brightest tie-dye.

Mike was born August 21, 1951 in Mason City, Iowa to parents George and Greta (Juhlin) Brahm. When he was four years old his family moved to Lima, Ohio. As a kid, Mike was in Indian Scouts with his father and one of his brothers, Steve. Here they learned outdoor skills and Mike fell in love with nature. They went hunting and fishing which only solidified his love for the outdoors. He graduated from Fairmont High School in Kettering, Ohio in 1970.

At church one day when he was four years old he met Bev Bucher. Mike didn't know it at the time, but he and Bev would spend many years together until they were united in marriage January 29th, 1971. On August 20th, 1974, they welcomed a baby girl, Gretchen, into their family. July 27th, 1976, Jason was born.

During the Vietnam War, Mike served in the Air Force and was stationed at Travis Air Force Base in Fairfield, California. He was part of the military police guarding aircraft and was honorably discharged in June 1976. For most of his career, Mike has been a skilled machine tool operator, working long and hard hours to provide for his family.

When the family lived in California, Mike attended numerous concerts, such as Jimi Hendrix, Jethro Tull, The Electric Light Orchestra, Janis Joplin, and many others, along with, of course, The Grateful Dead. Anyone who knows Mike, knows he loved listening to music. He knew the words to every song he listened to, and often put on his own concerts in the shower and the car. In his free time he loved to go for long walks in the woods with his dogs. Mike was an excellent dog whisperer, and could calm even the most skittish of pups.

Michael had a great love of cars from the 1950's and 60's, especially Chevys. He won a few awards from showing the cars. The last older car he had was a 1953 Chevy Sedan Delivery, which he worked on often until he gave it to a trusted family friend, Jason Awe, to keep up on the repairs.

After retiring from Curries in 2018, Mike spent most of his time in the woods or at home with family. Mike and Bev took a trip to Montana to see friends and spend time in Glacier National Park and then went to Yellowstone. This was a life long wish of his to see the beautiful nature in the West.

It's safe to say Mike was a true hippie. Always appreciating the land, spreading love, and maintaining his luscious, long hair that would make anyone jealous, but often got a few comments from his mother.

Michael is survived by his wife, Bev Brahm, his mother, Greta Brahm, siblings Carla (Bob) Savage and Tim Brahm, daughter-in-law Nicole (Steven) Hamilton-Brahm, grandchildren Jacob Schmitt, Alex (Marty) Brahm, Christian Bachman, Eric (Malika) Hamilton, Lexi Hamilton, and Annika Juveland, great grandson, Mav'Eric, along with many, many cousins and friends. He is preceded in death by his father, George, brothers, Steve (Deb) Brahm and Jeff (Annie) Brahm, his father and mother-in-law Clayton and Virgilene (Allman) Bucher, and his children, Gretchen Crooks and Jason (Nicole) Brahm.
