Brassil, Michael Joseph of St. Louis, Missouri, passed away peacefully on July 18, 2011. Michael was preceded in death by his daughter Kelly and his parents Michael Sr. and Juliann (McCarthy). Loving father of Patrick, Sean and Daniel; dear brother to Sheila (Emil) and Maureen (John) and best friend of Tracy Brady. Born in Astoria, New York, Michael was activated into the Army during the Berlin Crisis and later moved to St. Louis in 1966. He owned and operated multiple Ziebart franchises and was a former President of the North American Ziebart Dealership Association. He was also an officer of the American Legion Post #101. Michael was a proud and active member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, serving for six years as President of the Cardinal Glennon Division in St. Louis as well as President of the Missouri State Hibernians. During his time with the Hibernians, he was honored as the Grand Marshall of the Hibernians' St Patrick's Day Parade as well as the St. Louis Hibernian of the Year. Michael was instrumental in securing the 2014 National convention of the Ancient Order of Hibernians for St. Louis. It is almost 9 years later as we approach July 18, 2020 (in this historic year of the virus pandemic).
What I miss about Mike Brassil: his ability to perform in stage plays at the parish, his beautiful singing and most of all - his magnificent smile. God bless Mike, his family and friends. Tim O'Connell

Mike assured his old basketball teamates, Frank, John & myself, that he would use his eloquence on St. Peter to make it easier for us to get through the pearly gates, when it was our turn. Already, I have had evidence of Mike at work up there. Last night, our softball team in Portland, OR had a game against McGillacuddy's Hitmen, a ferious group if you ever saw one. Despite all our errors, things began to go right. Strong winds came up that helped my pitching and their cleanup hitter hit a towering fly into the wind, which held it up long enough to be caught for the final out and for a 15-13 victory for our team.Afterwards, I looked up to the heavens and said "Thank you Mike, just like the old days".

I always enjoyed Irish dancing to Mike's great and entertaining Irish music; whether it be at a Feis, Duffy's Tavern, a Hibernian gathering or a good old fashioned backyard BBQ bash! It was a pleasure to know him - he will be missed. My thoughts and prayers go out to your family.

Mike will be sorely missed at Post 101. I found him to be one of the kindest and most gentle persons I have ever met, and consider it a privilege to have known him.

I am home in Heaven, dear one;
Oh, so happy and so bright!
There is perfect joy and beauty
In this everlasting light.

All the pain and grief is over,
Every restless tossing passed;
I am now at peace forever,
Safely home in Heaven at last.

We will miss you, Mike.

What a loss for everyone. As much as it hurts as a friend, I can only imagine what you, the family must feel. My prayers are with you. Mike was a joy to know and be around. He was fun and enjoyed having a good time, always a gentleman and he truly cared about people. He will be missed.

I have so many fond memories of Mike. We grew up together in Astoria, Queens, New York. We played on the Immaculate Conception basketball team with friends for several years and shared many wonderful experiences. Mike and I attended a church dance in the Bronx many years ago, where I met my dear wife, Angela. I always loved Mike's sense of humor. He had a way of seeing the funny side of life. However, he surprised me with his talent for singing Irish ballads. It wasn't till a few years ago, that I had the pleasure of listening to a CD, that he had recorded. It was beautiful. I also loved the cover for the CD case, which included a picture of Mike with his Mom, standing in front of a home in Ireland. I also appreciated how Mike always kept in touch, sharing the latest news, that was going on in St. Louis. I will really miss him.

Although he will be missed, we need not worry about where he is. If ever there was one who made it to Heaven before the devil knew he was dead, it was himself.

What a remarkable man, life style, talents, compassion, and all round memorable gentleman. I remember my late brother Dusty introducing Mike to me many years ago as "The most brilliant man I ever met." We'll miss you, Mike, and enjoy your Guinness with Blaine on the piano.

To Mike's family-I am so sorry for your loss. He was a brave fighter and did not give up easily. I always enjoyed spending time talking to him at Hibernian functions. I am a member of LAOH JFK Div. #3. I will be unable to make the wake and not sure about the Mass, so I wanted to post something here for all of you.

"God saw you getting tiredand a cure was not to be.

"So He put His arms around you and whispered 'Come to me.'

"With tearful eyes we watched you, and saw you pass away.

"Although we loved you dearly, we could not make you stay.

"A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands at rest.

"God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best."

I will miss you, my dear friend, and send my deepest sympathy to your family and many friends.
