My thoughts and prayers for comfort go out to the rest of the family! I always enjoyed Michael´s upbeat energy as he and the other boys matured in the Boy Scout program.

My deepest sympathy to his family. I witnessed the growth of a young Boy Scout into an Eagle Scout, and kind person.

Even though we had not seen eachother in more than a decade, Michael always had a special place in my mind. Not seeing him in person never meant stopping to be friends: after all these years, he kept sending me letters and postcards. Whenever I went to visit a new place in France or anywhere else, I would be thinking how he would have loved it and how awesome it would have been to share those experiences with him. Not three weeks ago, we were messaging about him visiting me in France and I was thinking about all the places I wanted him to see. I know he wanted me to see the Albuquerque Balloon Festival...

Back in 2011-2012, Michael made my stay in the US unique. he showed interest in my difference as a foreigner like nobody else did when I was there. All those memories with him are still here in my mind and heart : Chicago, Detroit and so many other things he had me see and try.

Il aimait que je lui envoie des mots en français car les langues étrangères étaient un des domaines qui l'intéressaient le plus. Alors je termine comme cela.

Il me manque énormément

One of the sweetest people I ever met. We had our talks, laughed like crazy, even cried. When my husband and I got married (we had only witnesses) I asked Mikey to be there with me. I remember coming out of the bathroom and he teared up and told me I looked beautiful before we left to the ceremony. He was so genuine and sweet. Always making everyone laugh. I´m sorry we grew apart. You are so missed. :( This isn´t goodbye. This is see you later!

Mike was like a ray of sunshine. He seemed to always be full of fun and he was extremely thoughtful and generous. I knew from his messages, gifts and visits we were thought of, loved and special to him. He had a beautiful laugh, a warm smile and big hug and was ready for adventure! We pray we will hopefully see him in heaven and are praying for the Lord Jesus to comfort his family and friends.- Danelle

We met at the Albq international hot air balloon fiesta! We were messaging through the couch surfing app and he picked me up on the side of the road. I knew we´d be friends since the time I met him. We have been in virginia, TN, Wisconsin, New Mexico, and Arizona together. So many amazing memories!! He was Uncle Mikey to my kids and has made it into every photo album

Mike was a big part of the Arizona community and known for his volunteerism across the country. After college, he started this journey at CollegeBound and at A New Leaf which helps displaced people. His opportunity to volunteer allowed him for travel: New Mexico for thier Hot Air Balloon festival, Key West for LGBTQ celebrations, Cherry Festivals in Michigan, St. Patrick's in San Diego to name a few. He was given the opportunity to study in China where he learned the language and could also speak spanish. This brought us together via Zumba over 10 years ago where we would "shake it until we made it". I believe he was in my first aqua zumba class. We also bonded as we were both transplanted from Detroit and would share stories about "Fort Detroit" and relished when University of Michigan would beat The Ohio State. One favorite event was him bringing back Mackinaw Island fudge and we scientifically graded each of the 30 flavors with another Michigander and her family.
Mike met up with me in Norfolk Virginia where I was able to show him a decade and a half of living. We used scooters to tour the Riverside and see the USS Wisconsin. We also traveled to the beach for an iconic "Drag me to Brunch" event and he went over the river to Newport News where we danced to fight off children's leukemia.
Mike helped people and created a family in Arizona. We spent holidays together -- he got to learn about judiasm and was one of the few people who complimented my cooking. At one time he was with my family to the point where he would pick up my children if needed in a pinch. Had other friends's families in Arizona call him Uncle. He helped me move not once, but twice -- all the time commenting on how I could have the heaviest furniture in all of Metro Phoenix. He would summerbird in Flagstaff and work at the local homeless shelter. He was a mench in that way.
He loved to paint and create artwork via pottery. He would decorate his "living room" with seasonal items and show them off. We would make signs for Phoenix Pride.
I was really looking forward for us celebrating the Lions winning thier games with him this year. To the game occurring this weekend, where they will beat Washington, I will have a beer in his name.
May his memory be a blessing

Mikey was by far the best person I have ever met in my entire life. Mikey never knew a stranger, he was above and beyond talkative, and loved to share all his stories of traveling. Mikey was kind hearted, thoughtful, loving, caring, super funny, adventurous, and beautiful inside and out. Mikey loved all of his family, as well as all of the family he made throughout all of his travels. Mikey had a a larger then life personality that drew in anyone he can across. I will miss Mikey with every inch of my entire heart. Mikey, this world was a better place with in it, so I know heaven is so lucky to have you now. Rest easy, until we meet again my sweet friend.

Your friend,
Tiffanie Wade

Michael was always making us laugh. I remember one time very vividly when we were kids having a cousins sleepover & we were sharing funny fart stories. Michael´s story was of a time at school in his gym class & a girl who bullied him was sitting next to him on the gym floor. Well he farted while the teacher was taking attendance & it echoed loudly throughout the gym! He instantly turned to look at this girl and exclaimed "Oh, Catherine?!!" With everyone in his class laughing and placing the blame on her instead. LOL! I can still hear his laugh as he´s telling the story & feel my belly aching from laughing so hard, all of us in tears cracking up while we´re gathered for these stories on a pile of blankets in the living room, hahaha. Gosh, I am going to miss you Michael. I´ll miss your funny stories, your art that you shared & crafts we got to make together. I´ll miss hearing of your travels and your visits home every summer. You were a great cousin and wonderful friend. I love you, Michael. I hope you´re exploring anywhere & everywhere, peacefully, happily & without limitations.

Love, Steph
