Michael Connelly Obituary
Funeral service will begin Wednesday, October 25, 2017, 9:45 am from Blake-Lamb Funeral Home to the Funeral Mass, 10:30am at Saint Barnabas Church 10121 S Longwood, Chicago IL. Visitation will be held at 4pm to 9pm, on Tuesday October 24th, at Blake-Lamb Funeral Home, 4727 W. 103rd Street, Oak Lawn IL. Burial will follow the funeral at Mount Olivet Cemetery, 2755 W. 111th Street, Chicago IL.
Mike Connelly was born in Evergreen Park IL, on January 31st, 1938.
He was married to Virginia Delgado on October 6th, 1968. They were married for 49 years.
Mike worked as a Fire Fighter for the Chicago Fire Department for 32 years. His career as a fireman included firefighting in the Chicago Riots of 68', being a Union Steward, the rescue of a number of families while off duty, and being the firehouse cook. He was best known for his gift of gab, his eternal sense of humor and his hospitality, which included the hosting of Sunday breakfasts for the neighborhood, drinks on Western Ave and countless bbq's and margarita parties. His favorite hobby was listening to jazz records of which he collected over 3,000 in his lifetime. Mike never met a potato he didn't like. He earned the name "Spuds" as rookie in the Fire Department, when, after being told to peel half of a ton of potatoes, he peeled one half of each potato in the whole ton.
He is a proud US Navy Veteran and active member of the American Legion and the Lions Club.
He is survived by his wife and best friend Virginia Delgado Connelly, sons Nicholas and Patrick, daughter Margaret "Muffie" (Casey Antonick), Sister Lynne (Gary) Penrith, brother Nicholas, grandchildren Brendan, Kaitlyn, Francisca and Paloma.
He was preceeded in death by his mother Eileen Connelly, father Nicholas Connelly and brother Patrick Connelly.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Michael's name may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children, www.shrinershospitalsforchildren.org, 855-401-4897.

Virg, Joe and Tony told Tim 10 minutes before the service started about Mike. We were both sorry to hear this news. We both thought of you and Mike as our friends and some of the best neighbors we have had. Tim still remembers when t the power went out in the neighborhood. And Mike had a big BBQ from what was in the freezer. I remember him saving Joe when he was small and about to climb into Elsie's pool with no one there. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

Virg, I just heard about Mike's death. Condolences to Pat,Nick & Muffie. I am forever gratefull that when he & Ernie "interviewed" my fiance 44 years ago, he gave him a thumb's up! You and Mike were great, caring neighbors to my mother, Dorothy Honey, for over 40 +years. May Mike rest in peace ,and may you and your family remember the best of Mike... the never ending jokes, and great food!

Mike was a wonderful person and I'm so thankful to have had him in my life. He lived life to the fullest and did it all with a smile and a sense of humor that kept us all laughing. He was the best cook, and I can't eat ribs from anywhere else. You are all in our prayers, and I hope your happy memories of Mikeyour beloved husband, dad, brothergive you comfort in your grief. We will miss you dear Uncle Mike. ❤
