Michael Craine Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 31, 2025.
Mike was a gifted photographer, professionally capturing many major league sporting events and concerts in New York City early in his career, seeing all of life's beauty through the lens of a camera. He was a licensed boat captain and sailor, an avid researcher and advocate for mental health, a seeker of authenticity and alignment with nature; he had a heart like no other. His passions were the ocean and Montauk, where he resided for over 20 years. He was known for helping those who needed a hand, guidance, an understanding ear, or shoulder to lean on. The Montauk community was his family and his home. Mike will be greatly missed by all lucky enough to have known him.

He was deeply loved and survived by his mother, Renate Craine-Sutterlin, sister Renate Gleysteen, brothers Stefan and Daniel Craine, in-laws Peter, Kristy, and Denise, nephews Theodore, William, Aidan, and Patrick, niece Maya, great nephew Axel, and his many wonderful friends.

I am so surprised that Mike transferred to another plane of existence and may he be at peace. When I would arrive montauk from New York and would see Mike, his warm hello and "how are you" were so authentic that I settled down in my body.
I will miss you in many ways that I know and many ways that I didn´t realize were here. Safe travels and lots of love, Maggie keogh

Michael, Thank you so much for your openness, support and friendship over these many years. Also, for giving me the nick name "Irish" and our many conversations before and after our gatherings. My tear ducts are doing more than simmering. I miss you so much.
Rest, my dear friend, rest. Love, IPad Mike, "Irish"

Michael was one of the most humble people I ever knew. He was very intuitive, generous and always had something positive to say. I am sending love and prayers to Michael´s family and friends. Michael, you will be missed greatly!

I only recently met Mike, yet he had a beautiful aura around him - one that I felt even on our zoom squares. He touched my heart even from afar. Prayers for healing, love, warmth and comfort to all the lives he touched and those that shall miss him deeply.

Mike was always there to help with photographing many of the biggest East End fundraisers .... His shots from Ladles of Love ( to benefit the East End Food Pantry Network) Dennis Craine Benefit Concert (Paul Simon, Garland Jeffries, Susan Vega, Phoebe Sno), Ladles of Love at Stephen Talkhouse (East Hampton Food Pantry).. and a number of private events, hold special moments in time for me....

To the family:
Mike was a wonderful contribution to our meetings and then to our lives. He attended a lot of meetings, initially shy to share but finally felt at home and opened his heart for all to see. Many times he ended with, "I don´t know what I just said...", but we all did. He was precious! God bless.
