Long after ......but happy memories of Michael in England when we were friends in the early 50s at Manchester Grammar School, conspiring against the likes of Simmie and Artie, learning Greek and Latin, and, Winter and Summer shunning school dinners for Sivori´s large fourpenny ice-creams in Birchfields Park.
A generous boy, a self-effacing musical prodigy, he was always ( it seemed) under-valued, I lost contact and was sorry to read news of his passing. Last saw him performing at The Wigmore Hall
I am glad he had so many good friends in America

Michael Davis was a great violinist and excelled as a
Teacher's Teacher. All of his students excelled in playing
music all the while retaining
their individuality. His recitals
were inspirational. Master Classes were events for both the performer and the listener
to witness how this genius could eliminate the obstacles
marring the presentation of
each piece. It was magical.
Michael Davis will always be
remembered as a superb
violinist and master teacher.

Peter, my current violin teacher was a student of Michael Davis at OSU. I know he was deeply saddened at his death. He played a CD of Michael's violin playing which was simply beautiful. The warmth of his playing was unforgettable. I am sorry he is gone.

Michael was my violin teacher from 1987 through 1992. He was always wonderfully patient and able to teach the nuances of technique that make the violin sing the spectrum of life's ups and downs. My deepest sympathies to Michael's loved ones.

Michael Davis added greatly to the spirit of the Lancaster Festival and the LF Orchestra. He understood what drove the special people in this community to produce this Festival year after year, loved them for it and gave them thanks through his years of dedicated leadership and superb playing as the Festival concertmaster. Michael was a joy to be with and to listen to. He was a teacher, believing in the musicians of tomorrow, doing his best to give assistance along the way. He will be sorely missed in this community. Our hearts reach out to his loved ones, family and friends.

On behalf of musicians and friends of the Lancaster Festival, our love and respect for our concert master will know no end. During the 2007 season we celebrated twenty great seasons with a love fest that provided a lifetime of memories; making music until our ears ached, photos, hugs. laughter, meals, keeping late hours in low places.
As Lanfest 2008 prepares another "season of firsts", when we share our love, the concertmaster will be in our hearts, smiles, tears and conversations. As long as we talk about our loved ones, they are still here with us.
Michael, my next second line parade will be for you and I will tell children your legend . Your pal,

I was a student of Mr. Davis for the past five years. I never practiced as much as I should have, but I always enjoyed our weekly lessons. He was encouraging, kind, and I especially liked his sense of humor. He was a very special man who truly cared about his students, and he was the most inspiring and influential teacher I've ever studied with. I've learned so much from my time with him, and I know he will be greatly missed. My heart goes out to his family during this very sad time.

I was a student of Michael's from 2002-2003, during my last year of high school. He was a patient and sensitive teacher and I will always remember my early Saturday mornings with him. I only just a few days ago heard that he was ill as I am now living out of the country and news from home often travels slowly, so it is a bit of a shock to hear that he is gone. I just wanted to let whoever might see this know that he is being remembered and missed.
