Michael Scott DeVore M.D.

Nancy and children,
Please accept my condolences on the loss of Michael. We've been out-of-touch for over forty years but I still remember him with great fondness and admiration. May he be at peace with the Lord.

Dear Nancy, Kim, and Chris: Ken and I were so very sad to learn about Mike's death. We had such good times together, in Houston, at Chris's wedding, and by chance after a meeting in Austin. We will always treasure those memories.

I had the opportunity to meet Dr. Devore several years ago, during the time when I work E/R Registration at Woodland Heights which I am still employee of Woodland Heights. Also during this time I met Mrs. Devore as well. My son - Kevin J. Brooks, Jacob Sapp & others from Huntington High school had the privilege of going to Spain to play USA Football & Dr. Devore/Nancy was one of his sponsors to help him with his trip. We are still grateful for that. Dr. Devore was a caring & compassionate man to everyone. My family are very sorry for your loss and you have our prayers.

The two of you are in my thoughts at this difficult time in your lives. Losing a parent leaves a gaping hole in your lives, especially when your father was such a special person. Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers as are your mother and sister.

I am very sorry to hear of this great loss, to you and for the community. Dr. Devore was by far my favorite ER doc. An example of his thoughtfulness, and dedication to his work, is when he stopped by my house to see how I was doing the day after I was his patient in the ER.

Dr. DeVore will always have a special place in my heart. Those in his life whether by relation, patient, or friend, were the lucky recipients of his generosity, kindness, and fineness of character. Added to his many attributes was his innate and boundless sense of humor. The world was a better place because Dr. DeVore was in it.

I know these past few days, weeks and months have been so tough on all of you but I hope you take some comfort in reading the wonderful postings on this website from all of your friends. Knowing 'Turkey' as long as I did, it makes me wonder if they are talking about the same man who teased me mercilessly growing up all those years ago, although he did redeem himself when he let me drive the Corvette that one time. That was one of the neatest things anyone ever did for me and I will NEVER forget it. I am so sorry I will not be able to attend the services (I am in California through the end of the month) but please know that I am praying for you each and every day and hope that things will get easier as time goes by. You all mean so much to our family. Please let us know if there is anything we can do.

I had the privilege of working with Dr. DeVore at Lufkin State School. He was such a delight to be around and we knew that he was always in our (the nurses) corner. One of my fondest memories of him is his taking my elderly mother-in-law riding on his motorcycle, which had been a lifelong dream of hers.

I was very saddened to hear of the passing of Dr. DeVore. As I mentioned to you back in May, Dr. DeVore was very encouraging and definitely made a difference in my life and college career. I never got to meet Mr. DeVore, but from my meeting with you and working with Kim I have a feel for the love with which he blessed his family. I worked for several years behind the scenes in our ER visiting with multitudes of patients that use Memorial's facility. As a patient advocate, I never received a complaint regarding Dr. Devore's care, which was astounding given the volume of patients and high demands placed on those physicians. This spoke highly of his carefulness and good work with those patients and is a tribute to his legacy.

I am very honored that I got to meet Dr. DeVore the few times that I did. I used to see him when I would go visit my mom that worked with him in the ER at Lufkin Memorial and he was always very encouraging when we would talk about A&M. He always urged me to do my best at A&M. My thoughts and prayers are with you Nancy and family.

We would like to say thank-you to everyone who has left/will leave messages to our famliy. You have NO IDEA how wonderful it is to hear of how much dad was loved by all. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

I was so sorry to hear of Dr. DeVore's passing. I worked as an ER clerk with Dr. DeVore many years ago at Memorial and will never forget his friendliness and those red tennis shoes. He always had a smile and words of encouragement. He will be greatly missed.

My heart goes out to Dr. DeVore's family. I had the privilege of working with him as a nurse back in the late 70's and early 80's. He was one of the kindest, most gentle and honest physicians I have ever met. I fondly remember discussing the book "The Hobbit" with him at length. If my memory serves me correctly, he was known for his red socks!

Like everyone else at Lufkin State School, I loved Dr. Devore. He helped everyone, not just our individuals, but the employees and their families when needed. I miss him greatly. May you have comfort and peace from knowing how much he was loved and appreciated.
