To many things to list- Mike, I have known you since the days of Elementary basketball and have been friends ever since. It breaks my heart that you are no longer with us, my longtime friend. Until we meet again, rest easy my friend. Prayers for the family- Mike we all will miss you deeply and love you!

Mike was gifted in so many ways...I will never forget when Mike first came to visit the lab here in Indy. Mike was an expert on the neurophysiology of the marine mollusc, Aplysia californica. His knowledge of this relatively simple nervous system and his love of neuroscience so impressed me that I hired him on the spot. We subsequently went on to have many happy productive years conducting research on pre-clinical models of chronic pain and investigating the cause of these pain states in the clinic. Mike's enthusiasm for the work was infectious and I was so sad to see him leave academia for a position at Lilly Pharmaceuticals. Eventually he returned to the School of Medicine where we renewed and revitalized our friendship. To know Mike was to love him, and he was truly a friend to all. He was one of the best ones out there, and his infectious laughter and compassionate nature will be forever be missed. I grieve for Monica and the girls but know that they will forever cherish their memories of Mike and his life. Rest in peace Brother.

Dan and Susan, You have my condolences. I have three children, all older than Michael, and I cannot fathom the emotional turmoil of the loss of any one of them. May God be with you and give you strength and peace at this time. Vic Kerlin
