Dear Emma,
Jane and I were devastated to read of Michael's passing. It will be an enduring regret to me that we lost track of you when you moved to New York, and didn't pick up again when you returned to Washington. He was witty, wise, droll, committed, and wonderfully accomplished; when we were young men, back in the day, I loved having him for a doubles partner because he was so entertaining. We send our deepest sympathy to you and the girls. The world just got a little smaller.
