definition of a dad

the word is very small
to some it bears no meaning at all
but to me it meant a hand to guide
arms to hold close deep inside

voice tender in the dark of night
able to ease the deepest fright
taught in his gentle way
words and ways to be and pray

eyes that reflected the joy within
for me always that special grin
forever a part of all that is me
helped me to grow to be all i can be

so today i am most glad
to say you were more than a dad
example of what it was to love
now to guide me from above

no longer here to touch my heart
but never are we truly apart
your words and stories will remain
shaping my life till we meet again.
