Michael S. Frechette, 53, of Wallingford, lost his battle with depression on Sunday, February 12, 2023. He was the loving husband and best friend of Jennifer (Flood) Frechette.
Michael was born in El Paso, Texas, January 13, 1970, a son of Robert Joseph Frechette and Barbara (McKinnon) Stack. He served in the 2nd Infantry Division of the U.S. Army from 1989 to 1991 and was a Sapper in a Combat Engineer BN stationed in Korea. Michael attended Clarkson University where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Engineering and Management in 1998 and a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering in 2001. In 2010, he received a Masters Degree in Engineering and Project Management from The University of Maryland. He was currently employed by Walsh Construction where he worked as a Project Manager.
Michael found great joy engaging in various activities with Jen, be it their competitive pursuits to beat Escape Rooms across Connecticut, or playing their giant versions of Connect Four or Jenga in their backyard. His home was his sanctuary. Mike welcomed everyone warmly into his home and was happy to host picnics and man the grill with a beer in his hand and a smile on his face. Mike was adamant about keeping fit and enjoyed running, cycling, swimming, and hiking. He was an avid fan of the Seahawks, Red Sox, Bruins, and ever faithful to Clarkson Hockey, his alma mater. One of Mike’s favorite jobs at Clarkson was driving the Zamboni, which he did in style while wearing a tuxedo. Mike was a proud member of the Wallingford Elks, donating to their food and toy drives as well as other fundraisers.
In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by his 5 month old son whose smile lit up Mike’s world, his good friend and father-in-law, David Flood, his cousins Matthew Frechette and Tracy (Frechette) Jones, his close friends: Brian “Bob” Lisiecki, John Castle, and Jeff Kennedy whom he dearly loved, and his cat Lily. He was predeceased by his sister Patricia O’Rourke.
Despite his lifelong struggle with depression, Mike truly loved his family and friends. He would go out of his way to be kind and helpful to all. His sadness never prevented him from caring for and about others.
His family will receive relatives and friends at The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 N. Main St. Ext., on Sunday, February 26th from 2 pm to 4 pm. A funeral service with military honors will be held on Monday, February 27th, at 11 am at the funeral home. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to https://www.gofundme.com/f/michael-frechette.
