I was a classmate of Michael at Ghana International School (GIS) from Form 1 in 1976 to Form 5 in 1980 when we did our 'O' Levels. He was one of the first persons I talked to when I started GIS in the middle of Form 1 school year. Always remember his calm, easy-going manner and friendliness. Of course one cannot forget his Afro!! Fond memories of us playing football. Just found out about Michael's passing through another former classmate just today. My sincere condolences to the family...may Michael continue to rest in peace and power.

I only stumbled across this very sad news whilst looking at historical Ghanaian photos on the Cambridge University Library link. Michael and I were classmates up until 1980 in Ghana, but lost touch after our 'O' Levels. Over the years, other classmates and I unsuccessfully tried to find Michael's details online. We remembered his lively and friendly character, distinctive 'afro' (at the time!) and wished we could have caught up with him. Sadly, this was not meant to be. Good to read all the touching tributes. Rest in peace Michael, and condolences to the family.

I have only found out of your passing Michael. We lost touch years ago. I am so sad and wish we could have kept more in touch.

I will always remember him as the person who used to read articles about aliens online all the time when I worked at the university library 1997-1998. He was always fun, always a joker, but always kind and generous too. I will miss him and his baseball cap xx

Michael was such a dear friend to me having known him for 14 years at the University Library.
He was always the joker, but we always got him back.
And such a gentleman, making sure you got to places safely if you were going alone.
Memories; the black coat, the blue fleece, the famous red cap which we tried to remove numerous times.
Ahhh Michael, up there smiling down on us all.

It was always a pleasure to hear from my little sister Gifty, about what she'd been up to with Michael, Susan and Paul. I was not around much when they were growing up in Ghana, but this little group sure did have fun. My condolences to Mrs Fuller and all the family at this tragic time. A ray of joy has passed away but memories of Michael will live in our hearts.

Michael was such a relaxed personality, very easy to talk to and put everyone at their ease.

Michael was a dear friend of mine from my childhood. I grew up with his sister, brother and he in Ghana and we had many fun times. Although I hadn't seen him for quite a few years, he was always someone I considered a close friend. His sudden passing came as a great shock and it saddens me that I will never be able to relive our memories together again. Rest in peace Michael, I will miss you very much...... Love always Gifty

I didn't know him personally but it was a really sad news when I heard it. I talked to him once or twice at the Library and he was really kind to me (as to everyone). His very presence, when one entered the Reading room, was reassuring.
