I was so saddened to hear of Mike's passing and my heartfelt condolences go out to his family and many many friends. Stonington, CT will never be the same for me because after all it was his port, and I was always welcome in the inner sanctum of his office. A great ambassador and a great guy who will be missed by all.
Sincerely,
Walter Anoushian

My deepest sympathies to the Gambardella family. I have fond memories of our trips to CT to visit with Mike, his mom Betty & the rest of the family. I even remember visiting Mike & Laura in their new home on Gloria Place. He will be dearly missed. I am keeping everyone in my thoughts and prayers. Sending my love to all!

Though we did not know you very long your generosity was so greatly known in our family. Not only were you committed to saving the fishing industry but even in the small details you had a heart to give. The Hess trucks that you gave this boy Joseph at Christmas have been his favorite from the start. And the cream pies...what can we say. You were the best and you will be greatly missed. Our hearts and prayers go out to your family❤

My maternal grandmother, Josephine Gambardella was married to Andrea, Mike's grandfather, who owned the fish market on Washington Avenue in New Haven across from St. Anthony's Church. Mike and I were step-cousins. Many happy memories of Asylum street where my parents were living when I was born in 1948.
As with many famililles, each goes their own way and I lost track of Mike until later years. My mother, Cecilia Asor, stayed close to Mike's mother, Betty, with whom I visited and shared memories of the fish market.
Please accept my deepest sympathy on the passing of Mike. He was a wonderful man dedicated to family and the fish industry.

Uncle Mike is what we called him in this house . I never met anyone like him. His generosity , loving heart and humorous wit will always be how I remember him.He made you feel like family even though we only met him a few times. He would bring my grandchildren their first Hess trucks even though they werent born yet!!! Who does that? Uncle Mike did. Who brings Christmas dinner all the way to Richmond RI on a winters day? Uncle Mike did!
He was a very special person and very rare. I hope that I can be a light in this dark world like Mike and bring Joy to others like he did.
God bless all of the Gambardella family. We will see you again Uncle Mike on the other side. Love to all

I am truly sorry to learn of Mike's passing. Having met & known Mike, I can only say that it was not long or well enough. However, it didn't take long to realize what a caring & thoughtful man he was. His concerns for the industry & its people were evident each time we spoke.
We have lost another true "Cornerstone" of the industry!
Fair & gentle winds, Mike.

I will always remember Mikes vegetable garden and the joy it gave him. It was like him generous and loving. He would invite us to come and share his bounty, picking outside in the sunshine. It's a beautiful memory of him and his generosity. Rest well our friend as now you see the face of our Heavenly Father in the beautiful garden of heaven

Uncle Mike is the best. He will be so, so missed. From driving on Christmas Eve all the way from CT to RI to bring me and my family homemade seafood sauce and fried seafood for dinner, to giving my nephews whom he had never met Hess trucks each and every Christmas, to picking me up cannolis every time he came my way, and giving me more seafood than I could ever eat, I have never met so generous and big-hearted a man. I am so blessed to have known him and to be considered family. We had some awesome adventures working together to Make Commercial Fishing Great Again, and I treasure every minute of it. Thank You, God, for making Uncle Mike and allowing us to be friends. Take care of him until I get to see him again. I love you Uncle Mike. Love, your niece Meghan

Michael was truly one of God's angels on earth. His love of family knew no bounds. If you needed a dollar - he gave you a twenty. If you were hungry - he fed you a feast.....always giving and never asking for anything in return. Michael was a gentle and loving soul. To know him was to love him. I will always love you. Now...sleep in peace.
