Gambon is a deeply familiar presence in the lives of all keen drama appreciators but The Singing Detective - an astounding phenomenon at release still seeringly relevant today - was so effecting. Few actors could present this study in forebearance of physical pain aggravated by keen awareness & the quirks of the medical world without coming over repellent but Gambon was perfect, unforgettable, educational. Watch it, watch it again, especially if in pain. Vale to the great thespian.

I was so sorry to hear of Michael Gambon's, passing. He was an enjoyable actor. I've seen him in a couple of movies. One was Sylvia. A autobiography of the life & death, of American writer & poet Sylvia Plath. The other was Sleepy Hollow, starring Johnny Depp, as Ichobod Crane.
My condolences to Mr. Gambon's wife & other family members. As well as colleagues, he's left behind.
