Michael Goodwin Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 16, 2024.
Michael A. Goodwin, 69, of Winter Haven, FL, formerly of Peabody, MA, passed away at Winter Haven Hospital on Thursday, March 14, 2024, with his family by his side.

Michael was born on July 23, 1954, in Salem, MA, to the late Mary E. Goodwin. He was one of four, and the favorite (only) son and brother. Raised in Peabody, Michael met his wife, Rosanne (Amanna) when she was 15 and he was 17 years old, and they remained happily married for 50 years. He graduated from Peabody High School and worked for an incredible 40+ years at GE in Lynn as a machinist specializing in jet engine parts.

To begin his well-deserved retirement, Michael moved to Florida to soak up the warmth and enjoyed playfully teasing his family and friends about the cold weather up north. Michael fully embraced the retirement life. He played golf three times a week, continued to watch his Boston sports teams and favorite reality shows, and always made sure to update his Facebook friends on his and Rosanne's whereabouts, whether they were enjoying drinks at various restaurants and bars, vacationing at different Florida beaches, or playing jukebox bingo.

Michael answered to many names depending on who you were talking to - Mike, Goody, Dad, Favorite Brother, Uncle Butthead, Handsome Guy (if he was talking about himself) - but his most treasured name of all was undoubtedly Papa. He was the best Dad and Papa and nothing made him happier than spending time with his grandchildren, and nothing made them happier than spending time with him. Michael will be remembered for his infectious smile, his fun and jovial personality, and the fact that he pretty much laughed after everything he said - even if it wasn't that funny (but usually made you laugh along with him).

He is survived by his wife, Rosanne; daughter, Mallory Goodwin; son-in-law, Doug Landry; grandchildren, Lucas and Josie Landry; sisters, Ellen Goodwin Mendonca, Diane Goodwin, and Sheila Goodwin Isbell; brothers-in-law, Gary Amanna and Carlo Amanna; his nieces and nephews; as well as other extended family and friends that were like family. In addition to his mother, Michael was predeceased by his brother-in-law, John M. Mendonca, Sr. and sister-in-law, Christine Amanna.

He is already missed more than any words here could adequately express, and his absence has left a huge void in our hearts. A celebration of life will be held at a future date to honor and remember the life of Michael. In the meantime, feel free to honor his memory with a Miller Lite or a Captain's and diet coke, and by doing something to make someone smile today. We love you, Michael/Dad/Papa.

Michael, what can I say I will miss our joking back and forth on facebook- watching for you travels of Florida, you and Roseann saw more of Florida while you were here than Jon and I did in our twenty years here. I'm glad you lived your life to the fullest. I will miss you so much, but you are now with the best of them! Love you Jeanne

I am so saddened by this news. Michael was so positive and always smiling. He was one of my favorite people in our park. This hits hard and heavy. Life is short = live it to the fullest. So so sad - Tom (and Donna) Gilbert

Another good guy gone to soon. It was great always, everynight, ride your cart by cheering with your cocktails and living in a crazy world. You will be missed. I remember the first day we metr at The Pub, I kept calling your wife Rosemary, Rosanne, Rosey, anything with an R. Vodka and tonic will do that. LOL. Matter of fact I am sure there will be a lot of arms raised high for you tonight.

I love you dad and miss you more than I can even explain. You are so loved and will always be. Lucas and Josie will miss their Papa so much, but we will remind them all the time how lucky they were to have you. Wish we had more time - but will carry you with us, always.
