Michael Griffith Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 19, 2024.
Michael J. Griffith, a beloved father, grandfather, husband, brother, son, uncle and friend, passed away after a courageous battle with cholangiocarcinoma (bile duct cancer). His enduring spirit and kindness touched everyone who knew him.

Michael was a proud father to Amanda, Charlie, and William, and a supportive and loving father-in-law to Macy and Kaiya. He was thrilled to be a grandfather to three grandsons: West, Marshall, and Bennett, whom he eagerly anticipated teaching about life and adventure.

As an adoring and devoted husband, Michael cherished his life with Nikki Smith and their love was admired by many. He was also a protective big brother to his sister Erin and her son Graham.

Michael's presence was a cornerstone for his family. He embodied love, kindness, generosity, and adventure, and he often considered himself the 'luckiest guy in the world' to be surrounded by his family.

For 26 years, Michael was a prominent figure in the Audio Visual and Event Production industry. His dedication to his work, peers, and clients was unmatched, and he humbly recounted his experiences working with notable figures in music, tech, and entertainment.

Despite being diagnosed with advanced cholangiocarcinoma, Michael faced his illness with remarkable resilience. The disease initially presented as advanced, but his response to treatment was encouraging, granting him and his family valuable time together. Throughout his illness, Michael remained optimistic and refused to let it diminish his zest for life.

Michael had a passion for skiing, traveling, and exploring new cultures, food, and wine. He lived each day as a celebration, believing in enjoying the finest things in life and savoring every moment.

Michael's legacy will live on through the adventures and memories he inspired. Though he may be gone, his spirit will forever be cherished in our hearts.

Michael loved South Lake Tahoe and adorned it as his 'happy place' and would often say "there is a reason the mountain is called Heavenly". We invite you to be a part of the restoration of the South Lake Tahoe forest and plant a tree or grove in Michael's Memory. www.alivingtribute.org

Michael's family and close friends will gather to celebrate his extraordinary life on November 23, 2024. More details will follow.

Michael was my favorite "vendor" even more than that after the Chile earthquake of 2010 I considered him a friend. One of the most terrifying experiences I've had and the most stressed I've ever been in my personal life and career he was there to talk me off every ledge, let me know what to expect and that i would be okay and when none of that was working offer a fantastic glass of wine to calm my nerves. I haven't been alright since I found out you left but I will also never be the same for the better because I knew you.

Met Mikey back in 1993-94, he was the Director of MVP @ SC Marriott. When no one knew my skill level and just saw me as a warehouse tech, Mikey jokingly challenged me to a Sony 1272 stack and convergence. Let´s just say after I won that challenge, Mikey started requesting me to Tech shows and the rest was history, because had Mikey not challenged me, I might still just be a Warehouse Tech. When Mikey left SC Marriott and started MG Productions, he called me and asked if I was interested in joining his crew that was basically just him and Kelly at the time. ChurchHill was the main gig but we did travel to SoCal and Vegas for other gigs. They say , "when you live or camp or sleep with someone, you get to know exactly who they are" and No Diddy, I did all of those with him. Mikey you are not just a Client, not just a Boss, not just a Colleague, you are a Friend and more like a Brother. I can write a novel about our memories and good times hanging out joking around. Going to miss you my Brother but will never forget you. Till we meet again 1Love Fam!

We loved our dinner dates with Michael. Always a good time laughing, joking and some not much serious talks. It was always a special evening.

Michael was my first manager at my first (paid) audiovisual job. He got me started on my career path up to and through today, thirty years later. I was such a screw-up back then. Instead of firing me (which anyone else would've done) he helped me. He nurtured me to be better. He saw a potential in me I didn't even know was there. I don't know where I'd be today had Michael given up on me. Several years after working together we reconnected through church retreats. Later still, when I found myself briefly in between jobs, I asked Michael if he had any freelance audiovisual work. He immediately and completely filled my plate. He was such a good, giving, supportive man, and I, like so many others, am eternally grateful for his wonderful time with us. Thank you, Michael. Thank you.

Michael was an extraordinary Man who taught me how to love fruity wine a little bit less and to love to live life no matter what! He will live on in our wonderful memories that we have shared these last few years. The love he had for living life was so special.
Michael, I thank you for loving my friend Nikki "Nicolina noodle head" so much and for welcoming my husband and I into your lives. I will miss you dearly. Until we meet again my friend xoxo

Michael called me "cousin," which I loved as I have no actual cousins. Our moms were best friends and we grew up together. I will always think of him when I go to Tahoe. He was kind and generous and brave. The way he handled his illness altered the way I think of life and death. I am grateful to have been his friend. He will not be forgotten.

I met Michael many many years back in our shared industry. We spent a week working together and became fast friends with a common love for skiing and wine.

Although we wouldn´t work together again for several years, we frequently kept in touch and as his business grew, he was in a position to contract me for events that his company had going on. After the first one, we worked together very often and he became one of the best friends I´ve ever had, he treated me like family and we had many great times on and off work... we skied together, had so many wonderful dinners and work trips.

I still struggle with this loss, he was one of the best people I have had the honor of meeting in my lifetime.

"Shake and Bake" Michael, I miss you terribly.

My Dad loved to travel, he would say his favorite place to be was on a plane. I hope to continue on his wanderlust spirit, he was always planning the next trip, he never wanted to stop.
