Michael Gunton Obituary
Michael Gunton passed away on August 28, 2015 at St. Francis Hospital.
He was born in Pittston, PA to the late Howard and Marie Gunton. Michael was a graduate of William Penn High School and the University of Delaware. He worked for 27 years at MTS Corporation as a Senior Field Service Engineer. Michael volunteered for 20 years with Special Olympics of Delaware eventually becoming the Program Director of the Nordic Cross Country Ski Team. He participated in the Annual Polar Bear Plunge to support Special Olympics.
He is survived by his wife, Lauren Webster Gunton, his son, Kyle Gunton, his brother, Howard Gunton, Jr. (Kathy), his sister, Theresa Gray (David), his step-sons, Andrew and Patrick Coughlan, his nephews John and Daniel Stevenson and Christopher Gunton as well as a great-niece and three great- nephews. A viewing will be held on Thursday, September 3, 2015 from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the McCrery & Harra Funeral Home, 3924 Concord Pike, (Rt. 202 South of Silverside Road) Wilmington, DE 19803 where a service will begin at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Kidney Fund, kidneyfund.org, American Diabetes Association, diabetes.org, Special Olympics of Delaware, sode.org. or A Better Chance for Our Children, abcfoc.org. I knew Michael many years ago after Kyle was born. He was an intelligent, fun, upstanding man that David and I respected and enjoyed. He was greatly loved I know, and he will be greatly missed. I will pray for the comfort and peace of his family as they adjust to his passing.
