Michael Hammersmith

Michael Bruce Hammersmith, 70, of Savanah Georgia, passed away March 26,2025 after a difficult battle with cancer.

Mike was born in Frederick, Maryland December 7, 1954, son of the late Bert C. Hammersmith and the late Ellen Ruth ( Lilya) Hammersmith. His family moved to Glen Burnie Maryland in 1959.

Mike worked in freight with Arden Airfreight at BWI and Preston Trucking in Baltimore before starting with FedEx. With FedEx, Mike moved his family to Savannah, where he enjoyed the beach life. A lifelong Baltimore sports fan, Mike grew up with the Colts and Orioles, and grew to love the Ravens. He loved watching boxing and excelled at baseball.

He loved his cars, maintaining and cleaning them with meticulous detail. He enjoyed helping friends and family with mechanical issues, house painting, drywall repairs

and always left everything cleaner than he found it.

Mike loved music and appreciated the famous and the lesser known artists in rock, alternative and Motown.

Blessed with a unique sense of humor, Mike brought perspective and lightened any situation.

Mike is preceded in death by his brother Gary Hammersmith and brother Steven Hammersmith. He is survived by his family, wife Kim (Kerby) Hammersmith, son Eric Hammersmith (Michelle Johnson), daughter Caitlin Hammersmith, grandchildren Ava and Aden Hammersmith, and Sloan Barnhill, his sisters Faye Porembra and Lynn Bortle, many in-laws, nieces and nephews. Mike will be sadly missed by all those who loved him.
