Hey, Mr. Healey! I was thinking about you the other day. I can´t believe it´s been almost 15 years. You always pushed your students to do the best they could! I remember that day we grabbed coffee, and you told me to do it, don´t try. Well, WE, did it! I´m living my dream of being a dentist and getting married soon. I did a track day the other day and it was fun. I can understand why you loved your cars. I hope you´re enjoying the tracks up there! Thanks again for all you did for us.

Mr. Healey, it has been almost a decade known since you were taken from us way to soon. I am proud to say that your inspiration and guidance allowed me to graduate college and make a short, but successful career(4 years) in the military. Now I work in manufacturing, but still remember you today and have shared my stories from your class with many. Thank you again!

Mr. Healey was the best teacher and best mentor any student could ever ask for. I still find his advice and pointers helpful to this day. In only 3 more semester I will graduate college with a computer degree and I will say that part of that is because of this great man. We miss you Mr. Healey. I really do and I know all the kids you helped all do as well...
Rest In Peace...

It's been maybe 2-3 weeks into 2nd semester of my new year and first thing after I walked inside your old classroom I thought, "it's not going to be the same for my engineering 2 class." Mr. Healey's name is still on the door number sign faded partly missing but when I see that before walking in I remember.
and Happy valentines day Mr. Healey.

Back in highschool you wrote one of my letters of rec for the airforce academy. After what seems like forever im finally getting things together and seriously pursuing going into the military. I'm trying to go for army warrant officer flight training now. I remember one day you asked me what i wanted to do. "I'm gonna blow stuff up from the sky" maybe I didnt say stuff but you after that you wrote my letter without any questions. I'm still gonna make good on that Healey.

I take pride in the fact I was able to take so many of Mr. Healey's classes. He affected every one of his students' lives in a positive way. I carry a part of him with me every day in his anecdotes. The fact that I'm still learning from them now is a testament to not only his teaching ability, but his capacity for compassion, and his willingness to help his students not just learn the material, but to help us become better people.

Thank you Mr. Healey. Your memory lives on through each and every one of your students.

Throughout the years you see many people's deaths on the news. But its not until you see a familiar face that it really hits home. Mr. Healey was a great influence on hundreds of lives. He was loved by all that knew him. He will be missed. But most important of all, he will be remembered.

I think of you everyday Mr. Healey. I'm happy , you know, i'm about to graduate this year... I was literally living in hell , and i came into your classroom, and one day you just sat me down, taking the time, of actually caring, i only thought that happened in movies.. It hit me so hard, and i followed the pace that you set forth. From literally dropping out, to coming back to take your class only, to being able to say that i will graduate is the greatest thing that has ever happened in my life, aside from the honor of knowing that a human being with such a good heart existed , You will always be in my heart.

Mr. Healey was possibly, no THE greatest teacher Hopewell ever had. If I was having a bad day, I knew I could always look forward to being cheered up during his classes. He also had a great sense of humor, and he was the only man I knew who could keep a straight face while telling the jokes he did.

I will miss him, as will anyone who had the luck of meeting him

Mr.Healey was one of the coolest teachers that i've ever had. His death has been difficult to accept. He was a fun, caring, and easy-going teacher that many people will miss. I don't think that any other teacher will ever be as unique as he was. Farewell Mr.Healey, and thankyou.

Mike and I became friends from our teaching of programming in CMS. Though we were at different schools we communicated often and shared ideas. Mike, in my opinion, was a brilliant young man who was willing to do whatever to make himself a better teacher for his students. Our loss (CMS and Hopewell) is great but his families is catastrophic. My heart goes out to his survivors. God is looking after you Michael!!!!

The Healey Family, we all wish to express our condolences to you who knew Mike through his teaching as a member of our Computer Programming Curriculum Committee. Mike would come in to our meetings and sit by me because we had become good friends and he knew I always needed his help to understand and to become a better teacher. One summer I believe Mike put on a workshop for me because he knew how lost I was and many other teachers also attended and learned how to teach Programming from him. He always said he was there for me and I knew he was, and I know how you are going to miss that too. What a wonderful collection of memories people have taken the time to contribute. Michael was loved by all groups of people and made the most of the time he spent with us obviously. I will miss him very much, this is a very sad day for us all.

Mr. Healey was not only one of the best teachers I have ever had, but one of the best people I have ever known. Whenever I walked into his classroom, whether I was supposed to be there or not, he had a smile on his face. He had a wonderful sense of humor and a knack for teaching that few people have. The lessons he taught me, not about computers but about life, will stay with me forever. He was a great man and a great friend and he will be missed.
My prayers are with his family.

I am so sorry for your loss but know that he is still with us all smiling and saying his encouraging words.

I had the pleasure of meeting Michael a while after his arrival to Charlotte. We had a training class together for our Computer Engineering classes and we clicked right away. He always made me laugh and he was a great friend, colleague and supporter of our curriculum area. I received an email from Michael, as I usually did, the day of his accident. He was concerned about a student of his that would be transferred to my school. He knew that I would look out for the student and take him under my wing. I always received kind words from Michael. He was encouraging and always supported me personally and professionally. I was out for about 5 to 6 weeks due to emergency surgery. He emailed me while I was out and came to the district Alignment meeting saying he wanted to see me and make sure I was ok. He told me that he needed me so I better take care of myself. He was definitely a great motivator for me.

Michael, I will truly miss you.

As I would often see Mr Healey in various stores, we would always talk and I would THANK him again for being a friend and mentor to my son as well as an encouraging teacher that cared. These exchanges occurred even though he graduated several years ago. So, you can see why the students that didn't have him for a class wishes they did.
Pain is in all our hearts and my desire is for there to be comfort in life for those close relatives.

Although I never had the privilege of personally knowing Mr. Healy, I want to express my sympathy to his family, students, the entire staff at Hopewell and his many friends.

My grandchildren have both been in his computer classes, and I know that my granddaughter has looked forward to having more classes with him during the next two-and-a-half years.

They will never forget the lessons he taught them, both the computer lessons and those about friendship and love of life.

I know that the family, school and the people of Huntersville have lost a wonderful father and husband, teacher and friend.

My sympathy to each one of you.

Mr. Healey,
I may have never been of one of your classes, but you were my teacher. Your spirit and personality were one of a kind. The lunches we shared had and continue to have a great impact on my life and the way I carry myself. You helped me to grow into the person I have become with many laughs along the way. For that, I will always be greatful.

Mrs. Healey,
As you know your husband loved you very much. He told me your story and even spoke of the picture that was in his wallet. He told me to love without worry, for it will all work out in the end. He taught me about time spent away from the one you love can hurt but it can also teach you how to love even deeper. This lesson has served me well and helps every day. His love for you is a shining example of how we should care for one another, and I strive to live with as much passion and love as he did. I hope you are able to find peace in the time to come.

Mike was a loving brother and devoted son to our parents.

He spent our childhood years full of wonderment and excited about life. His room was full of books; his thirst for knowledge was unquenchable. He was always eager to assist anyone who could use his help. If a neighbor needed his yard cleaned or snow shoveled, Michael was happy to help.

Michael was born in Massachusetts in 1942. I am four years his senior and had plenty of fun times with my little brother. He was so inquisitive; he drove me crazy always asking questions. He was never into sports; he was into people, places and things.

High School was a blast for him; he was a very social animal. The phone never stopped ringing, it was always for Michael. He was Mr. Personality all through High School. I do believe that is why he took teaching in High School so seriously. They were the best years of his life and he wanted the same for his present day students.

The family is deeply grateful for all of the comments and gift of prayers.

Mr. Healey was definitely my favorite teacher during my four years at Hopewell. Having taken several classes with him, he taught us many things, not only about computers, but about life in general. Mr. Healey will be missed immensely at Hopewell. His distinction as a teacher not only permeated the classroom but was apparent to all who he encountered. Mr. Healey always shared an honest, encouraging, kind and thought provoking word. He was a dedicated teacher, co-worker and supporter of education. Our loss is great; for his family the loss is greater.

Mr Healey was the first teacher to ever really teach me about computers. He taught me everything I know about programming and almost all of my memories about High School happened in his class room. I'll never forget the time me and Kelly built him a pop up book in exchange for a soda or that time when matt chugged a 2 liter of soda and mentos and spent all class spewing up foam. His class was always full of laughter He taught me how to code and encouraged me to learn more about it. I'll never forget the 3 years I spent in that class and I know that wherever Mr Healey is, the people there are lucky to have him. For the rest of us, he'll be missed.

Mr. Healey was one of the best teachers I've ever had and, by far, the best teacher I had during high school. I only had two classes with him and, though I wish I'd had more, I'm thankful for those two classes.
It was those classes that I always, ALWAYS looked forward too because I knew his class, and he himself, would make my day. I learned so much in that class and I had him to thank for it.
I'm even more thankful that I was able to go back and visit him a few weeks before christmas break. At the time it didn't seem important but now I'm thankful that I got to see him just one more time.

To The Healey family;
Your husband and your father was one of the best men I've ever met, he was fun and very intelligent and he was an amazing teacher. He was truly one of a kind and we will always miss him. <3

When I think of Mr. Healey, the first thing that comes to mind is how nice of a person he was. He was the kind of guy that would do just about anything for anybody. He was so much more than a teacher to most. He was a mentor, an educator, a listener, and most importantly a friend. Anyone who knew him would probably tell you that he had a very sarcastic since of humor…and even when you were the butt of the joke we all knew it was in good fun and down right funny!! If you were unfortunate enough to meet him you really did miss out on a down to earth guy. It still shocks me to know that he has gone on to a better place, but he will always be one of my favorite teachers at Hopewell High School.

You will Truly be missed Mr. Healey.

To the Healey Family and friends,
My son, Nick Hersom, had Mr Healey this year and he was one of his favorite teachers. In fact, Mr Healey had just recently recommended Nick to a technical college. Nick was unaware of this until he spoke to the recruiter. Can you imagine the boost of confidence this gave to my son? In a time when growing up is so difficult, I was thankful then for his gift and even more so now. I am saddened that I did not know such a great person. His wife and family can be proud that he touched so many lives in such positive ways. God chooses special people and from the words I have read He received the best. May you find comfort and peace knowing Mr Healey was loved by many. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

Mr. Healey was a person who could see what really matters. He used this special vision to make a unique sense of humor, which always made me smile (even if it was to make fun of me a lot of the time). More than that, he understood what it was all his students needed and were capable of, making him one of the most caring teachers I've known. Michael, in his 58 years certainly achieved much success in all areas of his life. He was an incredible and phenomenal teacher and person. But Michael truly shined through his personal relationships with friends, students and family.

Whether you’ve known Michael for a short time, or his whole life you know that Michael had a certain way that he made people feel special. He truly had a gift. In a crowded bar, a classroom, a BBQ with friends and family, or a small dinner with friends, Michael had a way to make whomever he was talking to feel like they were the most important person in the world at that moment.

It’s funny how memories you have as a child still make you feel small when you are in the presents of a GREAT man. That was Michael…a GREAT man!

I have known Michael since June of 1969. Over the years and through difficult family circumstances, I lost track of Michael, although I often thought about him and hoped he was happy and well.

I have read many of the tributes to Michael, it is clear that he was truly the wonderful person that I knew. I enjoyed his humor, his compassion and deep sense of responsibility to people and things that were important to him…he was family. Michael lived his life to the absolute fullest and teaching was his passion. I’m convinced that there was no better son, no better brother-in-law and absolutely no better friend that has ever walked this earth.

On Tuesday, December 30th, 2008 we all experienced a huge loss and I will miss him.

While I feel very sad knowing that I won’t get the opportunity to speak to Michael again, I just remember that we don’t get to choose how people come into our life or how they leave us, all we get to choose is how we spend our time with them while they are here with us. Michael knew that and he made every minute count.

Anne, I will remember Michael and you and your family in my prayers.

My heart goes out to all those who have been devastated by the loss of their loved one. I never knew the man personally but I have seen him many times when I passed through the hallways of Hopewell.

It's such a tragic thing to have happened.

I am currently in Mr. Healey's 3rd period. He always made class fun in any way that he could. He was always smiling and joking with everyone in the class. He was a very concerned and caring teacher, which is sometimes a very rare thing to come by in a high school. Anytime I went into his class in a bad mood he could look at me and know right away that something was wrong and he would make sure that I was okay and joke with me and do anything to make me feel better. He was a teacher that you could go to and talk about anything and he would listen and by the end of the conversation have you laughing about it. He was not only a caring man but an extremely smart one. I have learned so much in his class this semester. I even find myself talking about the things he taught me almost everyday outside of school. School will not be the same without Mr. Healey's caring smile and his jokes. I express my deepest sympathy to his family and to anyone who knew him because anyone who knew him will always remember this man. This is a great loss. Rest In Peace Mr. Healey, you will be truly missed.

You were more than just a teacher, you were one of the biggest influences and inspirations in my life. I remember when you wrote my letter of recommendation to the Air Force academy, and though i did not go, that just goes to show your willingness to help. I will never forget you Mr. Healey. Better teachers might exist, but a better person, there is none.

Mr. Healey was so much more than a teacher, he was a great friend. He was an inspiration to everyone, and had a great influence on me during my time at Hopewell. He was always there pushing me to do my best, and I am truly greatful to have known him. I will never forget the great times I spent in his classes. He will be missed greatly.

We are lucky to have such a wonderful guardian angel looking down on us now.

To the Family and Friends and Students of Mr. Healey,

I am the parent of (Kelsey Lynn) a student at Hopewell. Kelsey did not have Mr. Healey as a teacher so I never have had the opportunity to meet him. After reading all of these comments I am sorry that our paths never crossed. Anyone can be an educator but it takes a very special person to be a teacher. It sounds like Mr. Healey had those qualities of being a special teacher with unique talents and that he could make that connection with young people. I know that he will be missed at Hopewell by the students and his friends. My prayer for his family is that God will wrap his loving arms around them and hold them tight during these most difficult times. You all are in our thoughts and prayers.
