Michael Jay Hertzog

Michael Jay Hertzog passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of strength, dedication, and love. Born in Bitburg, Germany, he was the son of Marlene Elizabeth Jarvi Hertzog Patterson and Robert Lewis Hertzog Sr., and brother to Samantha Lewis, Denise Pursche, and Robert Hertzog. Later he began a flourishing relationship with his step mother, Bonnie Hertzog.

A proud graduate of Alhambra High School, Michael went on to serve in the U.S. Army from 1979 to 1983, earning the rank of Specialist (Formally SP4) and the Sharpshooter Weapons Qualification badge. After his service, he dedicated himself to a career in operations and freight, including his time as a respected Union Steward at UPS and later roles at Yellow Freight (Formally YRC) and AutoNation Nissan. He also completed an HVAC program in 2009 to further his career.

Michael was a father to Mike, Crystal, Marisa, and Bryana, and a grandfather to Perseus, Logan, Matthew, Maylee, and Madelyn. He found joy in football, especially cheering for his Dallas Cowboys, golf, and exploring history through biopics and documentaries. He had a thirst for knowledge and loved immersing himself in a wide variety of topics from politics to religion to even sci-fi.

He will be remembered for his loyalty, resilience, and his deep love for his family.

As written in 2 Timothy 4:7-

"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith."

He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
