I met your father and mother only once when I was visiting Sue-Bee. They were uniquely wonderful. They were most likley in the St. Paddy's Day Parade on high yesterday. These losses are sentinel events in our lives, but continually remind us that life is meaningless without the love of family and friends, including the furry ones. My condolences to all of you.

Pat, I was saddened to hear about Mike passing away recently. I know it has to be even harder on you since your mom is gone as well but you know they are happy to be together again. My dad died 6 years ago and my mom also died on February 12 but I can promise you that they were both waiting for your dad along with your mom when Mike got up the the pearly gates. It is difficult not having either parent around any more but you know they are both very happy to be back together again. Your dad was such a legend in KC and in the Reardon families eyes and he will be truly missed by us all. He and your mom and the rest of the family will be in our prayers.

I've moved away from the KC area about the time Murph retired; in the 60s my father had turned me on to Mike's radio schtick as we went to and from work and we'd share the laughter. Once Mike asked everyone going in to work that day to throw out the back seat cushions from their cars so when he went home that night he could count how many listeners he had. I missed him so and would still try to find out from friends how he was doing. He gave so much joy to so many people and really changed folks' outlooks on many things. I'd love to hear some of his old broadcasts - I'll never forget one time when he said suddenly to somebody, 'why do they always bring on the food when somebody dies? It's like, you hear Joe just dropped dead at O'Gilley's Bar and someone yells, "I'll bring a roast!" He was a funny funny man - I hadn't known he had lost his wife recently and obviously he has followed his heart to be with her. God Bless you Mike and your wonderful family.

Dear Pat, Susan, and Jenny and all Mike's family/friends
Going all the way back to the 1970s at Rockhurst High and the beginning of the St. Pat's parade, my memories of Mike bring a smile to my face and my heart. How much joy Mike brought to countless lives. May the Lord now reward him as only the Lord can do! May each of you know the closeness of the Lord at this hard time of closing a long and storied chapter of family and city history. Mike was one of a kind and will never be replaced!!

Thanks for all the fun times and great memories 'Sir Mike.'

To the Hervey Family:
I had met your Dad on a number of occasions and I can honestly say he was one of the most compassionate, caring, individuals I have ever met. I grew up listening to him as a child, curled up in front of the heating vent in my kitchen. Although I was not able to attend his first St. Patricks Day Parade, I have attended the majority of them over the years, and always talked to him before. I'll never forget the Double-Decker bus experience heading out to Paola Kansas in the early years. As I grew older, I usually saw him at the Salvation Army fundraisers and he always had time to talk with "common people". He helped me on a number of occasions the past decade or so after I endured multiple job layoff's and had difficulties providing for my "8" Kids. He and Cathy were always so gracious, so caring, so giving. Both of them are truly Saints for what you have given to this City and the community. I for one have been "blessed" to be called your friend! May you rest in peace!

Not being a "morning" person, Mike always helped me get myself to the office with a smile on my face - so much so that I was inspired to write "The Garbage Star Boogie" for him. I will never forget his smile and his lightning-speed wit. May God rest his soul

I am so saddened at Mike's passing. He was such an bright light....I have the
fondest memories of Mike and the countless shows and charities we did together over my years of coming and going in Kansas City. Every time he invited me to guest on his show, I knew I was in for a fun ride with unexpected twists and turns and lots of laughs. It was "fasten your seatbelt" time. Listening to him in the car even made bad traffic tolerable...you were sure to be entertained whether the topic was gossip, people news, UFOs or a mix with serious issues of the day. Only Mike could come up with such a bizarre idea as the cattle drive thru KC with some cows ending up in a parking garage and an equally legendary St. Patrick's Day Parade.
Mike had a serious, compassionate and intuitive side too and never left a stone unturned. That's what made him so endearing...he was the whole package, and a genuine one at that. I was truly honored and very lucky to have known and worked with Mike, both as a friend and colleague. Like many Kansas Citians, his loss leaves a big hole in my heart. There'll never be another like him.
What a great, complimentary show combo he and producer Andrew Yates made...and what a wonderful team he and Cathy were. May Mike and
Cathy now rest in peace, together again.
Mike, you have left your most honorable mark on all of us.

My condolences to you and your family on the passing of your dad. I always thought when there were years I could not go on a spring break trip; there was always the parade and Westport, thanks to your dad. The unfortunate part if we were in town that week we were probably at our high school job unloading trucks at Stix.

Susan, Pat and Jenny-
When I heard about your Dad's passing, I immediately went to our family photos to again look at the fun that our parents had together. Remember the summer trip to Colorado where my Dad (Cy) tried to ride a horse? They laughed about that forever. We were lucky to know him and laugh with him. There is a tavern in heaven with Dan Hogerty, Cy Perkins and Mike Murphy at the bar having a drink and a joke (loudly). Your family was such a big part of ours back in the early days of the parade and we will always remember him fondly. Thanks for the good times! We love you.

My deepest condolences to Mike's family and loved ones. He provided me with many hours of entertainment and laughter. From the Irish bands he had at the bar to his radio show he was the consumate entertainer and jokester. My fondest memory of him was at Hogerty's bar on St. Patrick's day 1981 where he held court in his tuxedo and greeted everyone in his affable style. He will be missed. I'm glad he touched my life. Rest in peace, Mike Murphy. You were a great radio personality - a true legend of the K.C.airwaves! I was a huge fan and listened every weekday morning and at night when you filled in for Art Bell. I was addicted. After you retired, I had withdrawal symptoms.
You really knew how to bring a community together with St Pattie's Day parade, raising donations for Salvation Army, and the awesome cattle drives - so much fun!
You will be greatly missed by all those who loved your wonderful spirit. It just won't be the same without you.
Until we meet again - peace out!

Mike and Cathy were my next door neighbors on Lee Blvd for several years in the mid '90's. I spent numerous evenings with them while Mike drank huge bottles of beer and fixed something tasty on the grill. He was never at a loss for a great story - most of which were very funny. I was lucky to have been his neibhbor and sad when we moved. I lost touch with them after I moved except for two memorable lunches. We met at two of his favorite restaurants - Cascone's and the Salty Iguana. I'm not sure we ever did eat but we drank a lot and laughed even more! I'll miss his humor and great stories but know he's happy to be back with Cathy and their assortment of beloved dogs. Heaven will be greater(and funnier)now. My thoughts are with his kids and family who will be left with a void but hopefully can take comfort in having been loved by such a wonderful man.

I never met Mike, but felt like we were pals. He kept me smiling while behind the wheel - one of those sales guys out there he had such an affinity for. I'd just moved to Kansas City and heard Bill McDonald of Kansas City Infobank interviewed on the Mike Murphy show in August 1987. I wrote Bill a letter following the show and eventually went to work for him. He became a great strategic mentor who shaped my career in so many ways.
If not for Mike Murphy, his wonderful show, and having Bill as a guest that day, and I don't know what I would have wound up doing.
Beyond the countless laughs, Mike Murphy changed my life that day!
God bless you Mike!

I listened to Mike from his shows with Mother Merz and brother Pat, to the sad day he retired. Loved his stories about friends and family - son Hazel, a daughter's 16th birthday, the twins and his beloved Cathy. Never any controversy, just always brightened my day.
