Michael Hobbs Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 5, 2021.

Michael Ray Hobbs, age 67, of Nash, Texas, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, January 30, 2021 in a local hospital.

Mike was born February 14, 1953 in Harper, Kansas. He was in foodservice for over forty-four years and was currently with Pleasant Grove Independent School District and a member of the First Baptist Church Wake Village, Texas. He was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend, but his absolute favorite role was that of Papa. He was a very hands-on Papa and he had an incredibly special gift with and love for children. On any given day, you could find Mike entertaining and horse-playing with the children, they brought him so much joy.

Mike loved his family and was always looking forward to the next gathering with them. He had a servant’s heart and if anyone ever needed help, he was always there to lend a hand. One of his favorite hobbies was yard work and he spent many hours working in the yard and quite often, you would find him mowing multiple neighbors’ yards. He truly loved being outdoors! He also enjoyed playing a mean game of cards or dominoes, an occasional road trip to visit family, and he was known for being the life of the party.

He was preceded in death by his father and stepmother, Harry and Diana Hobbs, his mother and stepfather, Evelyn and Ivan Holmes.

He is survived by his loving wife of forty-one years, Donna Hobbs of Nash, Texas; son, Brent (Julia) Hobbs of Texarkana, Texas; daughters, Cristine Hobbs of Castle Rock, Colorado and Amanda (Andrew) Smith of Lowell, Arkansas; in-laws, Robert and Cheryl Huffman of Little Rock, Arkansas; brothers, Dennis (Pam) Hobbs of St. Louis, Missouri, Bradley Hobbs of Texarkana, Texas, Pat (Trudy) Hobbs of Dodge City, Kansas, Bill (Lyndora) Hobbs of Bloomington, Indiana, Lee (Shelley) Hobbs of Mitchell, Indiana, and Danny (Mary) Strouse of Wichita, Kansas; sisters, Vickie (Sam) Crowe of Bloomfield, Indiana, Tracie (Neil) Crowder of Loveland, Colorado, Teresa Holmes of Wichita, Kansas, Julia McMahon of Spencer, Indiana, and Gretia Deckard of Bloomington, Indiana; grandchildren, Zane Thompson, Emily and Dylan Hobbs, and Hudson and Hadley Smith as well as numerous other relatives and friends.

A celebration of Mike’s life will be held Saturday, February 6, 2021 at 3:00 pm at First Baptist Wake Village with Bro. Scott Neathery officiating.  Visitation will be from 1:30 pm until time of the service. The family requests masks be worn and social distancing practiced.

For those unable to attend, there will be a live stream of the service that can be found on YouTube, or at www.fbcwakevillage.org.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Wake Village, 820 Wake Avenue, Wake Village, Texas 75501.

Dear Donna, Words cannot express how sorry I am to find out Mike's passing . I kept looking for him out working in his yard and realized something must be wrong! It is terrible to live so close and be so disconnected. I had a major incident with my cell phone and lost your number or I would have called. Mike will be so missed in the neighborhood as he always had a bright smile and wave when I drove by!
If I can do anything to help you please let me know! I will be happy to help out with Sadie or anything else you need.
Love and sympathy for you and your family,
Sue Smith

Donna and family, I just found out about this and was shocked and saddened. Mike was generous, kind-hearted... always treated my son, Grant, like his own... I particularly enjoyed his competitive side, whether it was a Wii bowling game or horseshoes... we always laughed and had fun. Although I haven't had any contact with him for a while, I know he is loving his new home, with sprawling yard, and will be sadly missed by the whole family. RIP Mr Hobbs

Respectfully

I have many happy memories of Mike. We grew up in the same neighborhood in South Meade. There were a lot of families with many kids, we all got along. I was in the same Class of '71 with Mike. Always fun to be with, always kind. See you at the house Mike!

Our hearts sank at the news of Mike’s passing. We passed by your house last night and commented on how nice Mike’s yard always looked, only to find today that he no longer here, but in paradise. Praise the Lord that Mike was undoubtedly a follower and faithful servant of Christ! Hobbs family—we are sad with you, but find hope knowing you will see him again. We know you’re hurt far too well after Joe Paul passed in September. We will be praying for peace for you all.

Amanda, Brent, and family -

We are saddened to hear about your father. Mr. Hobbs was fun to be around and a great Christian man. Many years ago, Mr. Hobbs use to call my dad’s office and prank call my dad.
I remember that he always had a smile on his face.

Your family is in our prayers and we are truly sorry for your loss.

Sincerely,

The Lincavage’s and the Bittle’s

Mike and Donna were the first people we met when my wife and I moved here from Houston. We were neighbors in Nash. They were the welcome to the neighborhood committee. When our kids came along they would get so excited when Mr Mike would wave and say hi to them from across the street or come over and visit. Mike was definitely into his yard work. My other neighbor and I used to joke that Mike made us look bad because we weren't out there as often as Mike and our yards didn't look as good. I can also vouch for the fact that Mike would sometimes ride his lawnmower across the street and mow my front yard. My kids were still little when we moved away. My son, now a teenager, started at PGMS this fall. His first day of school, he got home and was excited to tell us that Mr Mike had seen him in the cafeteria and yelled across the room to tell him hi. It made a stressful day a little brighter for him. Mike will be missed by all of us. Our condolences to Donna, the kids, grandkids, and rest of the family.
