Michael Jacobs Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Apr. 5 to Apr. 8, 2022.
Michael Anthony Jacobs ("Mike") went to his eternal rest on Thursday, March 31, 2022, at the age of eighty-six years. He was born in Greenwood, Mississippi, and was the first child born to Galip Abdalla Jacobs and Adele Joseph. During his childhood, Michael spent time with his brother, Sam, working in the family business and proudly served as an altar boy. He attended Second Ward Elementary School and Landry Memorial High School. He studied at McNeese State University. He met the love of his life, Mary Katherine and they celebrated the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony in October of 1965. Michael spent the first 46 years of his life in Lake Charles, Louisiana where he also founded Mike Jacobs Office Supply in 1964. He later moved his family to New Orleans in 1983 and changed the name of his business to DKI Office Furniture and Supplies, which continues to operate today. Michael's family was the centerpiece of his life. He was a devout Catholic with a strong faith and made it a priority to instill this same sense of faith in God to his children. He served in The United States Army obtaining the rank of Second Lieutenant. Michael was a member of Legatus. He served on the board of Jefferson Parish Economic Development Commission. His character is best described as kind and humble with a vibrant personality. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Mary. He is also survived by his brother, Bishop Emeritus Sam G. Jacobs, and children, Michael John (Tram), Michelle Ray (Royce), Mark (Claire), Miles (Christina), and Myron (Caroline). In addition, he is survived by 11 grandchildren and 7 step-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and son William. Visitation and Services will be held on Friday, April 8, 2022 at Mater Dolorosa Church, 1230 S. Carrollton Avenue, New Orleans, LA. 70118 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. with a Mass to follow at 12 noon. Committal will be at Lake Lawn Park Cemetery following the Mass. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Mater Dolorosa Church in New Orleans, Louisiana. I want to share my condolences and prayers for the Jacobs family. I had the pleasure to meet Mr. Jacobs through DKI and SPR. I´ve always heard about Mike Jacobs. But the first time I meet him it was a connection. He liked me and I liked him. RIP Mike. Prayed with my 4th Grandmother. Praying for the Repose of your Soul.
