He was positive and innovative work presence and shared his connection with outdoor recreation and environment. In losing 100 pounds and getting into marathons and cycling centuries, he is one of my guideposts along the way. Thanks for your light, Mike.

I was very saddened to learn of Mike's passing. We worked together on a number of interesting environmental projects over 3 decades and I always found Mike to be practical, knowledgeable and professional in his approach and always kept the best interests of Canfor in the forefront. Whenever we talked on the phone or met in person - family was always a big part of our conversation. Our two children are the same ages as Robbie and Rennie and we always were comparing notes as our children grew up. In 2015; waiting in the Kauai Airport for my son to get off the plane; here comes Mike, paddle in hand, into the arrivals area. We were going to the beach - he was going to conquer yet another ocean canoe race!!
That memory says it all!
My sincere condolences to Ann Robbie and Rennie

My sincere condolences to Ann and family for the loss of Mike's good company. I had the opportunity to know Michael for about 30 years, ever since we worked together at the Greater Vancouver Regional District. After that, even though we went our separate ways, working for different companies, we kept in touch and worked together on many different environmental projects and committees. I am very thankful for the memories I have of Mike: trail running in Prince George along the Fraser; having a pint in some small sawmill town bar while listening to him talk about his next big canoe race, or sharing solutions to world problems and or at least offering guidance to the regulators to help them understand the real world environmental issues. He was knowledgeable, and his advice was always worth listing to. He enjoyed both physical and mental life, from biking to work (rain or shine), running up the stairs in the high rise to his office, nearly being swamped in the big Maui canoe races, or solving complex environmental or home building problems .
Thanks for the memories and the company Mike, I will remember you well.

I cannot express the sadness when I heard of Mikes passing. He was family. Although I was only at Canfor for a short time our friendship endured the years.

I was Ann and Michaels investment advisor from 1988 until my retirement in 2009. When I read of Michaels passing I was extremely shocked and saddened. Michael was one of my favourite clients and our conversations were a real pleasure. Of course business was discussed but Michael was most animated when he talked about his beloved family. My heart goes out to Ann, Robbie and Rennie along with his parents and extended family. He was a very special person whom I will never forget. A true gentleman. Sincerely Jan Magnolo

It was with tremendous sadness that I heard that Mike had passed away. He was a colleague and friend of mine since I met him while I was working in Vancouver in the late 1990s, and his blend of sharp mind, sharp wit, and constant curiosity immeasurably enhanced our the research program of our organization, NCASI (of which he was Canfor's representative for over a decade). Many of us have stories regarding our experiences with him, some tremendously funny, and it is hard for me to believe those stories will now be confined to the ones in our memories, rather than having the opportunity to create more of them with him. Mike was a unique and strong influence on the forest products industry landscape in Canada, as well as a friend of mine, and I will miss him tremendously.

I got to know Mike first when he was a teenager in the Lake O'Hara Alpine Club cabin, and climbed with him. Later we met professionally, canoeing and mountain biking. Helen and I always liked Mike and were very sad to hear of his diagnosis last year and his untimely passing.
