Father Michael was a gem! He will be greatly missed. He is the only priest that I ever sent a thank you note to for a homily. He was a gifted story teller. I'm sure he's sharing a few stories in heaven right now.

What I remember is that he did a wonderfull job when my children passed away. He came to the hospital and did a great job at their funerals. Rest in peace Fr. Michael.

What I will always remember is how Fr. Michael used his gift of storytelling in his homilies. He'd often say, "I wasn't there, but others were, and they told others, and they told others, and so on, and now I tell you." It was a frequent and inspiring reminder that the Christian faith is rooted in oral history and tradition. I will miss Fr. Michael Kennedy, his good humor and example of living the faith, but most of all his inspiring homilies.

Father Michael was the reason we joined St Patricks. After moving to the area we were struggling to find a parish that gave us the same sense of belonging as the parish we had left behind. We walked into St Patricks for an Advent season Saturday evening mass with all the beautiful lights and listened to Father tell one of his "I wasn't there" stories and we were hooked! I was disappointed when he was forced to retire because I knew he would never be able to perform the weddings for my daughters, but he has forever touched them and us with his great love of the church and his down to earth views and preachings.
May the family be at peace with his passing knowing how he was loved and how many lives that he had such a wonderful influence upon.He will be greatly missed. Rest in peace Father Michael.

He will greatly be missed!! He was the best priest that I have ever had and never judged me for one minute when I had a child out of wedlock and was wanting him to be baptized in the Church, then I had the blessing of having Father Mike do my wedding, he made that day so smooth and effortlessly. You will be missed by all!!

Father Michael you will be forever remembered for your many acts of kindness. Your stories are something that you left behind for all of us to cherish. The Lord now has a great story teller. Just want you to know that you brought many people to the Lord with your wisdom and your humor. May the Lord keep you ever in his arms. We will all miss you.

Rest in Peace, Fr. Michael.

Father Micheal, I have always seen you to be THE PRIEST among priests of the Archdiocese. When you were "Head" of the Personnel Board, you worked tirelessly in providing recommedations to the Archbishop for the placement of priests in assignments throughout the Archdiocese. Your care for the people and the priests gave you a gifted outlook. Of the many, many recommendations to the Archbishop, I do not remember one with which he disagreed. Your work in love always reflected the Love of Christ. Now, that you are with Christ, I envision you carrying on the job in helping the placement of people in heaven. Please provide some recomedations to the Lord for future placements of us left behind. You have instilled in my life the Love of Christ!!! I only hope that I can be a mere reflection of the beautiful person that you are. "While the earth morns the loss of your presence, the heavens rejoice." I thank and praise the Lord every time I think of you. Smile on my friend. With Love, Jerry Piche'

We always thought we'd be able to see him again when we came back to visit. Minnesota will be a sadder place without him.

Fr. Kennedy was such a great guy. One of my favorite memories of him is from 25 years ago. He was pastor at St. Mary's then and the White Bear Lake HS boys basketball team had just won the state championship. The Sunday after the win Fr. Kennedy wore an orange vestment in honor of their win. (White Bear colors are orange and black.) He always had a smile on his face and a twinkle in his eye. Thoughts and prayers are with his family as you grieve this loss.

We are saddened for your great loss and we will miss him deeply. Last night we were reflecting on the many cherished memories we have of Fr Michael while he was our Pastor at St Mary's. It is so hard to to pick which one to share with you as there are so many, just know that when he called to ask us to do something, we were so honored to have him ask us, that we never said no. He taught everyone how to be faithful servants, and for that we are very grateful.

Father Michael will be forever dear in our hearts. We treasure his stories & the compassion he showed towards all, including the pets! Our family was drawn to St Patricks because of him & we know God's love in a much more intimate way because of everything he was while here on earth with us. As a parent, I have the deepest gratitude for the spiritual path he led our sons down-he never forgot them either-maintaining contact recently through 2 deployments via regular email to Iraq & Afghanistan-that comfort cannot be measured. The list is too long to write out for his family but please know that your Michael was so much to so many-may our shepard rest in peace...we were truly blessed by his ministry & are better stewards of Christ for having him in our lives!

Father Michael was the reason I converted to the Catholic Religion, he brought lots of personal touch to everything he did. We had quite a lot of fun in RCIA classes and it was always a pleasure to talk to him. I am sure he will be missed by all who knew him, peace be with you Father..

I am so thankful to have known Fr. Michael. He blessed my family and my life with his example of humility, kindness and integrity. He never seemed to run out of warm smiles. He included everyone and sought out anyone left out. His positive outlook was always evident in his infectious smile.
The lessons I learned from him have helped to make me who I am today. When someone touches our life for good, it is not diminished by time or distance. His legacy of love and service will live on in the lives of those he touched.
Fr. Michael, we will never forget you!

"I wasn't there, but others were, who told others, and now I tell you..." Fr. Michael had a special way of sharing stories of scripture that captivated our children, now young adults, and truly made a difference. We were blessed to have him as a pastor at St. Patricks. He will be missed by many.

To Father Michael's family: We were so sorry to hear of Father Michael's sudden death. Know that our thoughts and prayers are with all of you as you celebrate his life and grieve his death. We are parishioners at St. Mary's, and our parish was greatly blessed by his ministry among us. He was very special to our family since he presided at our 25th Wedding Anniversary Mass, our son's Baptism and our daughter and son-in-law's wedding. We will miss him.

Michael Kennedy was a classmate at De La Salle. I was honored to attend the fifty-year Class of '59 reunion, where Father Mike celebrated the Mass. May God wrap you in his embrace. Gregg Juettner

My family and I were members of St Patricks. We always enjoyed going to Church and listening to homilies that Father gave. One of the things that really made me laugh the very first time I heard it was his predictions of the Viking games!
My condolences to Father's family. He will be missed.

Although Mike and I grew up just blocks from each other in North Minneapolis, our friendship didn't begin until DeLaSalle. We would ride together to school each day in his 1948 Ford and our friendship grew from there during those high school years. After he was ordained and was assigned to St. Olaf - downtown, it was such a highlight of my week to be a part of his Sunday homilies; you just knew that there would be substance in his words. He was a treasure and I am so glad that we were able to reconnect after many years at our 50th reunion on the island. And that my daughter Sarah was able to meet my friend.

January 27, 2010

My husband and I were members at St.Mary of the Lake and looked forward each Sunday to his powerful homilies.
A great voice for God will be missed.

To the family,
Father Michael J. Kennedy was more than my parish priest. He was my best friend. The morning coffee sessions we shared once or more each week will always be very special times. He helped me through tough times when I didn't know how to handle personal struggles and important issues in my life. We laughed, we cried, we prayed. I will miss his smile, stories and his spirited view of life.

"He isn't physically with us any longer, but we will remember the homilies, stories and prayers he gave us, and we can tell others, and they can tell others..."

To Michael,
Your work here is done. Rest in peace, my friend.

My wife and I were very saddened to hear of the passing of Father Michael. We were members of his parrish in White Bear Lake (St. Mary's of the Lake). He was always so caring, understanding and insightful. His stories were wonderful, his collaboration of music and message was inspiring. I know I missed him and his story telling terribly when he left the parrish. We continue to miss him but will always remember him.

It is a sad time . when I heard of the passing Father Mike. all I could think when we belonged to St Pat's Father Kennedy was a awsome preist. We enjoyed his story telling, his puppy , and always bringing Santa with the puppy. That gave my girls sense of church wasn't so bad. I also enjoyed him when he visited St Katharine Drexel. God Bless and my prayers are with the family and also the parish of St Pat's

I was very lucky to know Fr Mike as I was in the "D" Class of '59. I enjoyed talking with he in some of the classes we had we had together. He also baptized my twin grand daughters at St Patricks. I did talk with him last summer at "D" 50th reunion. He was a wonderful man and will be missed by many.

I remember father Kennedy fondly. He was our priest at St. Austins Church for a short time in the early 70's. He took the time to play ball with the neighborhood kids and drew us to him with his kindness and sense of humor. I'm so sorry to hear of his passing.

Fr.Michael was always there for our family in good times and bad. He helped us to usher our beloved mother, Lucille St.Martin, to heaven and comforted us all who were left behind. A remarkable man and story teller who will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by all who had the opportunity to meet him.

Mike was a great story teller. He used stories to teach us how to handle life's many ups and downs. His wit and wisdom will be missed.

Memories of Father Michael Kennedy shall be forever written on our heart from a daughters Wedding at the, out of the way Basilica, with a homily that surpassed expectation to Baptisms that yielded his Charismatic smile. Most of all to his dedicated ministry that showed no boundaries of Christ's love for all he met.Reading his Musings stretched the JOY he emulated and so many times, while he may not have realized it,when he spoke of CHRIST ,he himself was in the script.A man of the people, for the people, human, caring, misunderstood by some and loved by many more than not.May the resting place he found be paved in Shamrocks and Irish Laughter.Rest, Fr.Michael.Certainly many of us will be knocking on heavens door testing your intervention skills.Gerry, Mary,Alexis, Kylee Kaminski and all.Buffalo Mn.
