Michael R. Kosin, 63, of Swoyersville, passed away peacefully Friday, Oct. 14, 2022, in Commonwealth Health General Hospital following a recent surgery and lingering health issues.
Born Feb. 20, 1959, in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of Marie T. Hassay Kosin and Norbert H. Kosin. He attended St. Stephen Elementary School, Plymouth, and graduated from Bishop Hoban High School in 1977. For many years he worked in the Dietary Department of Wilkes-Barre General Hospital and most recently for the state Department of Transportation.
He married his one and only love Deborah Warman Kosin in May 1999.
Michael was a fighter to the very end. Born with a congenital heart defect, he was not expected to live past his forties. He survived countless surgeries and medical procedures. He never complained or saw himself limited in any way. Growing up, he was always in the mix of things, holding his own against his older brothers, sisters and Bobby, Kenny and Stephen.
He loved music, collecting videos and was an avid reader. He also enjoyed political debate. Michael was a huge sports fan; in high school he was the manager of the baseball and basketball teams and kept the books. He is cheering for his Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles from above.
Most of all, Michael was a family man. He loved his wife Deborah and was so very proud of his children, Michael, Stephen and Amanda. He enjoyed time with his family.
Michael's last wish was to donate his body to science so that others might benefit from their research. Unfortunately, because of COVID-19 he did not meet the acceptance requirements.
Michael is survived by his wife, Deborah; and children, Michael, Stephen and Amanda; siblings, Norberta Kosin, Mountain Top; and Ann Marie White, Mary Ellen Watkins, Mark Kosin, David Kosin and Theresa Kosin, all of Wilkes-Barre; Thomas (Melanie) Kosin, Olyphant; Maria Crowder (Bryan), Anadarko, Okla.; brother-in-law, Gene Pelletier; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death, in addition to his parents, by sisters, Mary Claire (at birth) and Mary Elizabeth (Betsy) Pelletier.
Michael's life will be celebrated with a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, 116 Hughes St., Swoyersville. A burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Lt. Michael Cleary Drive, Dallas. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Lehman Gregory Funeral Home, 281 Chapel St., Swoyersville.
Donations can be made in Michael's name to Penn Medicine, a research hospital in Philadelphia, at https://www.pennmedicine.org.
Michael – you were our Superman. We treasure the time we spent with you. We will miss your smile, your quirky sense of humor and the way you could always manage to get in a jab! You will always be in our hearts. Until we meet again - Spanom Bohom (go with God in Slovak.)

To Deborah and The Kosin Family,
Sorry to hear of Mike's passing away. My condolences to all. Mike and I went to St Stephen's Elementary school together and I would see him occasionally at the DMV. The St Stephen's family, from our class, lost another last week, Mary Elizabeth Sperock Jayne.
