I only knew Michael for a few years,, but I quickly grew to respect him, particularly his commitment to students. We shared that, and a love of films. He will be missed, but he was successful in what I consider "success" which is making your little corner of the world a little bit better place during your time there. Michael certainly did.

I met Michael in 1975 when he was an evening manager in Browning Hall. We became instant friends as we would frequently talk in the dorm office. Several of us chose Hutchinson Hall for our sophomore year and beyond dorm. The hall director at Hutchinson was planning on leaving. Michael came over to be an evening manager in 1976. He applied for the hall director at Hutchinson and got the job as hall director. Michael was a friend to all and made an environment that was warm and welcoming. He truly cared about us as students. I didn´t want to leave the dorm when I graduated in 1979. Those years were some of the best of my life and I have Michael to thank for that. I fortunately got to see Michael on last time when my youngest daughter attended URI. I am very glad I took that time to hang out with him. Rest in peace my friend and hope to see you again when my day comes. -Peter Bartram

I´m so very sorry to lose such a fun loving and wonderful man. I lived in Hutch for 3 years and had some great memories driving "Jefe" nuts with my antics. Rest in peace big fella as you´ll be sorely missed

Michael was a rare individual who I cherish came into my life story, albeit briefly. I met Michael in 2017 when I joined URI as the Director of Res Life and asst. VPSA. We immediately connected over our shared commitment to students, their growth and development, but also film and popular culture over the last 5+ decades. While my time at URI was limited to health and other reasons, I count my time with Michael as one of the bright spots during my time there. As I am departing RI, he was one of a very few (<5) people I wanted to say "goodbye" to. I regret that won't be possible with him, but I think he knows that I felt strongly about him, his commitment, his values, etc. ..or at least I hope so. There are not many people in our field (Res Life/Student Affairs) that have this longevity of service and commitment, but that's what makes him stand out. I will miss him, but celebrate his lifelong commitment to students.

I am so very sorry for your loss. Michael was truly a wonderful friend and a great person. I worked with him for over 38 years couldn´t ask for a more caring wonderful person to ever have the pleasure of meeting. He was a great inspiration to everyone he met along the way. He will be forever in my heart and greatly missed. RIP Michael
