Michael Devon Mahoney, age 68. At rest Monday, September 1, 2014, at Rush University Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family.
Born June 21, 1946, in Joliet to Daniel and Carol Jean (nee Burmeister) Mahoney, he was a lifetime area resident. Retired teacher from School District 204 after 30 years of service. He was an assistant Scout Master with Boy Scout Troop 228, and was a wedding photographer with Matthews Studio.
Member of St. Patrick Catholic Church for 44 years where he was an usher. He was a member of the Joliet Public School District Bowling League, and the Grundy Area Aeromodelers.
Survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Betty Jean (nee Petrone) Mahoney; two children, Randy (Lisa) Mahoney and Melissa (Sean) Donnelly; grandchildren, Michael and Shannan Campbell, and Nola Donnelly; great-grandchildren, Jade Campbell and Kayla Zavala, and a great-granddaughter due in February; one brother, Dennis (Joye) Mahoney; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Steven Mahoney. Funeral Services for Michael D. Mahoney will be Friday, September 5, 2014, at 9:15 a.m. from the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rd., Joliet to St. Patrick Catholic Church for Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Interment Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation Thursday, 2-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

O God of spirits and of all flesh, Who hast trampled down death and overthrown the Devil, and given life to Thy world, do Thou, the same Lord, give rest to the soul of Thy departed servant, Michael in a place of brightness, a place of refreshment, a place of repose, where all sickness, sighing, and sorrow have fled away. Pardon every transgression which he has committed, whether by word or deed or thought. For Thou art a good God and lovest mankind; because there is no man who lives yet does not sin, for Thou only art without sin, Thy righteousness is to all eternity, and Thy word is truth.
For Thou are the Resurrection, the Life, and the Repose of Thy servant who has fallen asleep, O Christ our God, and unto Thee we ascribe glory, together with Thy Father, who is from everlasting, and Thine all-holy, good, and life-creating Spirit, now and ever unto ages of ages. Amen.

I taught Michael in Second Grade at Sheridan School. In later years my car was also in an accident with his car. I am sorry about his early death.
