Michael Mancl Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 17, 2023.
Michael John Mancl passed away on November 12, 2023, at the age of 58 from a sudden heart attack at his home in Wasilla, Alaska. He was surrounded by his family.

Mike was born in Appleton, Wisconsin on September 28, 1965, to John August Mancl and Earline Marie Mancl. He was born the seventh of eight children. The family moved to Sussex, Wisconsin in 1976. He graduated from Sussex Hamilton High School in 1984.

Being from a family with eight kids means there was always someone to play with. Winters were spent building snow forts, ice skating in the back yard rink mom would create and gathering around the wood burning stove with dad on cold nights. Summers meant riding bikes, climbing the apple tree across the street and playing army in the wooded lot next door with the neighbor kids.

Mike was always the adventurer. Mom always had to send his sisters out to look for him when it was time to come inside. They would find him nearby at the church playground or one of the city parks. Many times, he would be fishing down at the Fox River with one of his friends. There weren't many places Mike couldn't reach when on his bike.

Growing up in a musical family meant singing in the Church Choir, playing instruments in school and even performing in musicals with the local arts group. Mike was a born performer. In high school he played baritone and tuba and marched with a sousaphone in the marching band. He also belonged to a drum and bugle corps that performed in competitions around the state during the summers.

In 1994 he arrived in Alaska with the love of his life, Jeanette Runte, and later married in 1996. They had 3 daughters, Casandra, Monica and August whom they raised together in Wasilla, Alaska.

Mike worked as a pressman at PIP Printing in Anchorage for 29 years. He not only operated the presses, but he could fix them too. As a matter of fact, Mike could fix almost anything. His skill and work ethic made him a valuable asset to the company. Because of his mechanical skills, he never turned down a request for help. If an employee was having car trouble Mike would pull it into the print shop after hours and work on it.

Mike was always ready and willing to help others. Whether it was fixing someone's car, helping with a construction project with a neighbor or cooking his famous jambalaya for a school fundraiser, Mike would jump in with enthusiasm. At church, Sacred Heart Parish, Mike was always the smiling face at the door, greeting people and making them feel welcome. Those he touched will never forget his joy, his laughter and his big heart. Even though he kept denying it, he was loved by many.

Mike built and fixed so many things, but his greatest accomplishment was his family. He was always bragging about his girls every chance he got. His daughters became a reflection of his kindness and warm heart.

Mike is survived by his wife Jeanette Runte Mancl, his daughters Casandra, Monica and August as well as his seven siblings, Karen Antosch (Larry), Dennis Mancl (Sue Aurin), Patricia Epstein (Eric), Julie Foresee (Tim), Deborah Hahn (Dana), Jeffery Mancl (Karen Smudski) and Jane Grady. He was preceded in death by his father John August Mancl, mother Earline Marie Mancl (Zeller), nephew Sean Grady and brother-in-law Don Shafer.

Funeral services will take place at 12:00, December 1, 2023, at Sacred Heart Parish 1201 Bogard Road, Wasilla, Alaska 99654. Services will be live-streamed on www.Facebook/SHPWasillaAK

I got to know My first cousin Mike when I stayed with his family one summer shortly after they moved to Sussex WI.
I was employed by the Soo Line Railroad at the time as station operator/clerk.Most often I did vacation relief, moving across the line as needed.
Mike`s Dad John, Uncle Jack was always in touch with my Mom Buelah, so when he found that I was staying at the YMCA in Waukesha he insisted I stay with them.I didn`t take him up on the offer this first time,so he made it very clear at one of his random visits, if I ever get back to Waukesha that I better stay with them. The Mancls can be persuasive!
Funny as fate goes it wasn`t too long that I was called back to Waukesha for another stint.I gave Uncle Jack a call and He graciously brought me into their home.
At the time the younger kids at home then were,Julie, Debbie,Jeff,Mike and Jane.I remember Aunt Earline putting together a makeshift bed in the lower level, quite comfortable.
I work from 3-11 pm so we had lots of time to check out the neighborhood, play games or just hang out.

Most of all I got to kindle a heartfelt relationship with each one of my cousins that holds dear to my heart yet today.

I`m saddened by the loss of Mike's physical life.
It's His spirit that lives on with Me

I will never forget the first time I met Mike. I was out with Jeanette and we met him at Sneakers. Mike was friendly and outgoing from that first moment. He invited us over to his place and proudly showed us pictures of his family. The next day he came to a little party at my house and brought homemade lumpia eggrolls. There are many fond memories of Mike..many involving his great cooking. Mike had a big generous heart and will be deeply missed. Condolences to all who knew and loved him.
