MICHAEL MARCOTTE Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Oct. 1 to Oct. 2, 2015.
MICHAEL TRENT MARCOTTE Michael Trent Marcotte, 68, passed away September 29, 2015. Visitation will be 9:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 3 with funeral service starting at 11:00 a.m. at Church of the Resurrection, 601 NE Jefferson Street, Blue Springs, MO 64014. Entombment at the Faith Mausoleum in Mt. Moriah Cemetery. Michael was born on October 21, 1946 in Springfield, Illinois. He was the son of Oswald Joseph "Mike" and Virginia Ruth (Robinson) Marcotte. Michael attended the University of Missouri-Columbia, earning his B.S. degree in Education in 1968. He later attended the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law, earning his J.D. degree in 1974. Following graduation from law school, he was admitted to the Missouri and U.S. District Court, Western District of Missouri. From 1974-1997 he was Vice President and General Counsel for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of KC, starting the first in- house law department. From 1997-2007, Michael was in private practice in general law. In 2012, Michael semi-retired but was appointed to the CJA panel as an attorney to assist in the defense of criminal indigents. Michael served his country for three years in the United States Army stationed in Honolulu, HI. Michael was a small-town boy at heart and was happiest when he was in the outdoors fly fishing on a cold river stream, boating, and enjoying nature's beauty. Michael was a very generous man who loved his family dearly. He and his wife, Jill, had recently decided to begin enjoying their retirement by spending weeks at a time at the Lake of the Ozarks. They always made time for each other through their vacations from California to Florida and multiple places in between. He loved his wife dearly and treated his step- sons, Chris and Scott, as if they were his own. Michael was incredibly close to his daughter, Kara. He cried with joy the day she was born; their relationship continued to grow and strengthen as Kara moved into her adult years. They recently shared a special time together in Kansas City where they took a drive down memory lane visiting meaningful locations they had shared throughout their lives together. In many ways, he was a child at heart. Seeing his grandkids brought that out of him and he would never miss an opportunity to play children's games with them. He was preceded in death by his parents, half-sister, Joanne Marie Marcotte Davis. Michael is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Jill Marcotte, children Kara Marcotte, Scott Hogan, and Chris Hogan (Virginia), sister Martha Marcotte, grandchildren Anna, Jack and Liliana Hogan and Kara's mother Patricia Martin. Donations may be made to support service arrangements to Mt. Moriah Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, MO 64131 and/or the Missouri Department of Conservation, Donations Coordinator, PO Box 180, Jefferson City, MO 65102. M

I knew a Michael Marcotte from Missouri, when we were in the US Army, training for about 5 months at Ft. Holabird, MD. A soft-spoken gentle man, a good friend, and a fine soldier. Kindest regards to his family.

Dear Jill, Michael's many accomplishments set a wonderful example to continue to strive for excellence and service to others. A devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather, he will be surely missed not only by family but also all those who knew him professionally and personally. Under God's Kingdom by means of Jesus, be hopeful of seeing him again during the resurrection (Jo 5:28). - Andrew
