Michael MARTELLI Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun and/or The Province from Jun. 11 to Jun. 12, 2011.

MARTELLI, Michael (Mike) Mike passed away Thursday, June 9, 2011 at the age of 59. He is survived by his loving wife Elaine, son Scott (Cheryl), daughter Sarah Prosser (Joel), seven grandchildren, brother Mark (Sue), sister Karen Marinucci (Dave), stepchildren John Larocque (Jada Alcock) and Nikki Larocque (Brad Wallace), and a large extended family. He is sadly predeceased by his parents, Dominic and Olga. Mike grew up in Burnaby and lived in the lower mainland until he moved to Kelowna in 1998, where he enjoyed one of his many passions_boating. He was happiest in the middle of the lake with his friends and family. If he wasn't on the lake he was on the golf course. Mike coached minor league sports most of his life, but was actively involved with minor football for over 40 years. He applied the saying, "Go Hard or Go Home" to everything he did, on and off the field. Later in life, he enjoyed attending Elvis festivals, serving as the Colonel to 2 of his dear friends. Mike was in sales most of his career, and in 2006, with his wife and business partner, he made a career change and began running Interior Tax & File Small Business Services, a successful small business services company. A memorial will be held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 839 Sutherland Ave, Kelowna on Friday, June 17 at 1:00. If you wish to make a donation, please do so in Mike's name to minor sports organizations or the Hemophilia Society www.hemophilia.ca . Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.springfieldfuneralhome.com , 250-860-7077.

So saddened to hear of Mike's passing. Condolences to all his family. Mike and I were childhood friends in Burnaby, and I am filled with so many memories of that time. Mike breaking every set of braces that the doctors designed becuase he refused to let his hemophilia hold him back from trying almost anything. Driving all over Vancouver in his parents '62 Biscayne with the plastic St. Mary on the dashboard (lot's of stories that can't be told here!)Learning about life and trying to figure out women.Getting involved with minor football in East Burnaby and having Rick House as our first running back, then moving on to the Renfrew Trojans. Being taught how to drink beer by Paul Girodi at Birch Bay. Being Best Man at each other's first marriages.Time and lives may take us in different directions, but these and many more great memories will always fill my heart and make me smile. Michael, you will be missed.

Our condolences to Mark, Karen and the entire Martelli Family May the wonderful memories of the joyful times spent with Michael ease your pain as you celebrate a life well lived.

My sincerest condolonces to Scott, Sarah, and the rest of the family. I was good friends with Scott growing up, and I have very fond memories of times with Mr. Martelli. Giant Italian dinners with the family and trips down to the cabin in Birch Bay come to mind. But it is definitely all those hours on the football field with "Coach Mike" that have had a big impact on my life, and no doubt on the hundreds of others he coached. You will be missed dearly, Coach Mike.

I am very sorry for your loss. Michael was a very special person even as the little boy I used to babysit. He never let anything deter him from what he wanted to do. He was an inspiration then and I am sure an inspiration throughout his life. I have very fond memories of all 3 kids and I grieve his loss with you. God Bless you all
