Michael James McCarthy

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Michael James McCarthy, a devoted man of faith and patriarch to his family, who departed this earthly realm on July 20, 2023, at the age of 83. During his life, Mike established homes in both Boca Raton, Florida, where he resided for many years, and, until recently, in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan.

A devout Christian, Mike embraced life with a dedication to his faith, exemplifying its teachings as a supporter of the West Side Christian Academy, a Pre-K through 8th grade school committed to modeling the love of Jesus Christ to its students.

Mike forged a remarkable career as a distinguished businessman with a soaring spirit and boundless zest for life, that saw him lay the foundation for two thriving enterprises-first, McCarthy and Sons, a family business, and later, King Marine, Inc. He exhibited an unmatched tenacity as a force on the United States Curling Team and pursued his passion for drag boat racing with great success, becoming a race team owner, who, at one point, held the distinction of having the fastest drag boat in the world. Amidst his busy life, Mike found solace in the companionship of friends and family, sharing laughter and camaraderie at the Red Run Golf Club in Royal Oak, Michigan. An enthusiast of classic cars, he savored the time spent every year reveling in the nostalgia of yesteryears when reuniting with his boyhood friends during the Woodward Dream Cruise- the largest celebration of automotive culture in North America.

In the hearts of his family, Mike's memory will forever be preserved as a beacon of strength, devotion, and kindness. He is survived by his beloved wife, Pamela Swift McCarthy, whose extraordinary love and unwavering support were the cornerstones of his journey. His children, Andrea McCarthy (Brad Lewis) and Kevin A. McCarthy (Sookie McCarthy) feel blessed to have had him as a guiding light. His grandchildren, Dr. Alex Paul, Alyssa Paul, Shannon Fody, and Shane McCarthy carry within them the legacy of a man whose love knew no limits.

A fitting farewell to this remarkable soul will take place on Thursday, August 17, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at the Kirk in the Hills Church (1340 W. Long Lake Rd., Bloomfield Hills, Mi.). A reception will follow immediately thereafter in the Kirk's Refectory.

In lieu of flowers, those moved by Mike's legacy are invited to honor his memory by sending memorials to the West Side Christian Academy (9540 Bramell, Detroit, Mi 48239).

Although the loss of Mike is deeply felt, may we find solace in the memories we hold dear, knowing that his spirit will forever grace our lives with feelings of love, laughter, and cherished remembrance from the moments spent in his company. Rest in peace, dear Michael James McCarthy.
