Patty, Lauren, Erica, Dennis & Mikey,

Words can't express how sorry I am for your loss. I regret that I didn't get a chance to know Michael better, but I do know he raised beautiful, wonderful children and that he seemed like the coolest dad in the world. I know he will be terribly missed.

Much love,

Jennifer Brennan

WOW....I happened to ride by the cemetery today and at first thought, what was going on, all the traffic and fire trucks, when I realized what it was. How amazing from just someone riding by. I can only imagine how touching the services were and how great of a man Michael was to have that many people and to be honored like today. Michael, Your in Gods hands now, at peace, no pain, no suffering, in a beautiful safe loving place. We are jealous but one day will be with you!

Prayers for the entire family!

May the ocean take you back Michael.

No one man or woman can begin to think about nor compare to the impact that Michael D. McGrath has made on the time honored profession of lifesaving. From the thousands (yes thousands) of people who owe their individual lives to "Chopper", to the hundreds of young men and women that benefited from his sharing of technique for ocean rescue.

Moving a 14 foot Van Dyne rescue craft, by hand, through 15plus foot seas, plucking one, two, even up to five people out of the ocean and returning these souls safely to land on days that the United States Coast Guard deemed the Longport-Ocean City Inlet to be impassible, takes a special kind of person. Mike is that person.

Money nor Glory, were never terms associated with Longport Life Guarding.

It takes a master of the boat (and a slave to the ocean) to leave the beach, risk your life for someone you don’t know and return that persons' soul to them at their greatest time of need. Chopper always responded to that call.

Many times as a young man I entered the ocean on such a quest to save another life, and every time it gave me solace to know that my brother “Chopper” would support me, and help me return to the shore. You could see Mikes frame from anywhere. If you were the swimmer, it was easy to swim to the victim knowing Mike was commanding the boat coming to pickup. When he swam it was like watching King Kong swim back to Japan at the end of a 50’s era movie- Slow, steady and never failing.

May every soul you returned to its owner, now row you Michael D McGrath into heaven. The LPBP will never be the same………

Words cannot express how truly sorry I am about Michael's passing. Even though I know he is in a better place, I will miss him tremendously. What I will remember the most is his laugh, always having a cigar and of course, never cutting his sandwich in half.

Mike, I will miss you terribly.

Love,

Gretel
