Michael J. McGuirl

What a surprise it was to find this on my phone this morning. I first met Mike McGuirl when I was going into my senior year of college. I was working in my father´s store in Sylvan Beach and he came in. He started a conversation with me and he asked me what I wanted to be. And I said a social worker. Bingo !!!! He happened to be the commissioner of social services. This is not a coincidence; this came directly from God. He told me to look him up when I graduated which would´ve been the following spring. So I graduated in May and I started working for Oneida County Department of Social Services in July. I spent 12 years there before I retired to become a mother. I enjoyed Mike as a boss but I enjoyed his family even more. He was married to an angel on earth,carol ,and I loved his four children. I wish everyone well and lots of happiness. I believe that he and Carol are joined together in heaven now. God bless everyone. I love you all.

I grew up listening to stories my father (Bill McNally) would tell of his boyhood friend "Mikey" McGuirl and the McGuirl family. He thought the world of Mike. Please accept the condolences of the McNally family.

So sad to hear the news. I have such great memories of your dad..especially in Sylvan Beach. He was also so cute to write my mom notes on the Lourdes bulletins that he would send to her..she always look forward to them! He was a great person. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Grampy really was such a special person, and I am so very grateful that I got to know him over the last year. Skyler and I will miss him very much... Utica won't be quite the same next time we visit. Our hearts are with everyone in the family.

To have known Mike........was to have loved Mike. He was 'one of a kind'...

Dear family,
I was shocked and saddened to see Mike's death. I just found out about it today. I, along with Jerry have so many wonderful memories of all of you through the years. All of you were always so warm and welcoming. It's was God's blessing that I waited on Mike in my dad's store in 1964. He asked what I wanted to do after college and when I said a social worker he said to call him. The rest is history. I know that he loved all of you very much. May God bless all of you.

In all my life, never did I meet a finer and sweeter man than Mike. The McGuirl family was always a joy to be around, thanks in large part to the atmosphere he and Carol created. My condolences and thanks to his family for sharing him with me.
