My condolences to the family.
Mike was a very dear friend of mine. We hadn't contacted each other for several years. I just found out he passed away. The saying "life passes by in a blink of eye" resonates so much right now.
Mike and I use to hang out a lot in San Jose. We traveled together on a couple occasions. I followed him on his salsa adventures. I would go to his classes at one of the local clubs. I miss his Thanksgiving dinners. Most of my family lived in another state and I couldn't make home for the holidays. So Mike would always open his doors for me, but not only for me, he welcomed anyone who couldn't make it home.
I learned a lot from Mike. I was in my early twenties and Mike was in his forties when we met. He took me under his wing showed me the ropes. Mike showed me how to be a gentleman, how to be a great host. How to handle social interactions. I saw what it was to have a good, composed, and balanced life. I'm in my forties now and I like to stay, in large part to him, I have a good balanced life.
The most distinct memory i have is when we were stranded in Honduras together. We were on a cruise and got off for a day excursion. We miss calculated the ship and local time. The next few days were an adventure to say the least. The only items we had were the clothes we were wearing. Luckily each of us had a credit card. We could not leave the country until we recieved a temporary passport from the US Embassy, so we went from an island to the mainland. Then back to the States. When we finally made it to Maimi and waited there until the cruise ship returned. There is so much more to this story but it would take forever to write. I just have to say, after the initial shock of getting stranded, the trip was one of the most memorable and amazing times we had. Mike and I shared that bond and would talk about that trip many years after.
I extremely grateful to have met Mike and that we became friends. He was truly a special human being.
Mike, thank you for everything and I miss you my friend.
Alex

Mike, thank you for how beautifully & intimately we have loved; and while the years aren't many, it is the depth & substance of 'us' that make our bond eternally precious. My sweetheart, thank you for sharing this love so tender, often quiet, but indeed a force that reverberates through endless time and space. Mike, you have changed my heart & my world, you are my sweetness & I miss you beyond telling. Till we see & dance w/ each other again my love, under the same skies where the sun, moon and sea meet & where our love lives on.
