Michael (Mike) Soluk Obituary
Unexpectedly at the Juravinski Cancer Centre on Monday April 11, 2011. Mike Soluk, at the age of 56. Beloved husband of Rita. Loving father of Katie, Mike Jr. and Lauren. Dear son of Teresa and the late Michael Soluk. He will be fondly remembered by many extended family members. Mike was currently employed with Investors Group and was a retired chemical engineer with Stelco. The family will receive friends at the "Thorpe Brothers Funeral Home and Chapel", 96 West Street on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Parish Prayers at 8 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Basil's Church, 50 Palace Street on Friday April 15th at 10am. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, donations to the Juravinski Cancer Centre would be appreciated.

Dearest Rita, Katie & Collin, Mike and Lauren,
I just read through all the condolences and was once again so touched to by all the wonderful responses from so many friends and relatives. I think of him so often and even though we only met a few times, feel as though he was a true friend. I could see and feel his his kindness, laughter, his joking ways and his true love for his Rita, Katie, Lauren and Mike Jr. I have his picture still on our mantel as a reminder of this genuine devoted husband, father and friend. It's almost been a year since he was taken from this world to the next where he is without pain and suffering, walking along side of Jesus and being a guardian angel to his loved ones here on earth.
I know Mike walks beside you,
In everything you do.
He wraps his arms around you,
When you're feeling sad and blue.
Every day he holds you so tight,
Walking beside you, but out of sight.
He loves you with all his heart,
And never wanted to be apart.
But God called him home, just last year,
And holds him close in His arms so dear.
Please don't be sad when you think about me,
For one day we'll be together, as happy as can be.

I am so shocked and saddened by Mike's passing. Unfortunately I am out of town and couldn't make it to the funeral or visitations. Mike had such a great outlook on life. When we reffed together he would quip that we were like twins with our Bell's Palsy. We will all miss him.

Hello Rita,
We have known each other over the years both professionally and personally ( remember those Vermont ski trips). How time flies. We were shocked to hear that Mike had passed away this week and know this is a huge loss for you and your family.
We send our sincere condolences to you, Mike Jr, Katie and Lauren at this difficult time.
Andrew and Rosemary attended the funeral service this morning ..it was moving and very spiritual and was a great tribute to Mike as a husband, father, son, family member and friend.

My family used to vacation with the Soluks. We have many fond memories of the Baldwins resort up in the Muskokas, Cape Cod, and Sauble Beach – lots of fun times and good laughs. We were deeply saddened at the news of Michael’s sudden passing. He was such a nice, funny man and a genuinely good person. Our sympathies are with Rita, Katie, Lauren, and Mike. Although we lost touch over the years, we always remember the good times we had. We are here for you if you need anything.

We have never met, as my wife and I were clients of Mike's, but I feel I know you and your family from all Mike has told me about you.
I met him a few years ago and we imediately became friends. He took great care with our "business" and loved to chat about cars--He loved the Porsche and we had planned on trading cars for the weekend, but it never seem to work out.
He was a great guy, a wonderful financial advisor, and, most of all, a good friend.
He was at our house a month ago, and I feel sad I never had the opportunity to say goodbye, but I feel blessed for having known him.
My thoughts are with you and your family at this incredibly tough time.

We were shocked when Tanner told us about the loss of Mike. We always enjoyed our times sitting with both of you in the basketball gym cheering on our sons and the team. Mike is probably already reffing in Heaven.

Hi Mik,
I saw you today and I was more overwhelmed than I thought I would be. Our childhood memories flooded.
About twenty years ago I experienced what some might call dark demons. It didn't last long but long enough to alienate certain friends. You being one of them. I'm sorry for that Mik.
I want you to know I changed and have being doing exceptionally well for the last eighteen years. I had many good people to look up to and you were one of them. You without knowing gave me strength. I know that sounds goofy, but my friend, that simply the way it was. You silently augmented my recovery.
We all have regrets. And my one regret, is that I did not try to reconnect. I do not know why these things happen but human beings are wondrous at believing that death is not part of the equation.
If you were alive Mik, I would like to tell you I love you and thank you for making my childhood, puberty and adulthood, "fear and loathing in las Vegas." We had life and a cocky knowledge of ethics.
I met your three wonderful children today. Katie, Mike, and Lauren. Rita is as kind as the first time I met her. Your Mom looked as great as usual.
To them my sincere condolences.
However, you didn't look so good. I much would have rather been having a coffee with you.
I'm not trying to be pretentious Mik, but if I had the chance, these are some of the words I would say to you. I will miss you, Mik.
