Michael Thomas "Big Mike" Mione

Michael Thomas Mione, affectionately known among friends and family as Papa, Uncle Mike, Big Mike, and sometimes even Uncle Junior, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2024, in Palm Bay, Florida. Mike was born on June 7, 1937, in Gary, Indiana and dedicated many years to the Gary Police Department before his retirement. Mike Mione spent a lifetime dedicated to caring for and supporting what mattered most to him - his family and friends.

For the past several years, Mike has enjoyed spending time with his granddaughter Ashley Hawkins and their family at their home, and traveling around the country to visit family and friends. After a battle with Multiple Myeloma, Mike joined his beloved wife Marla (Nanie) Mione, his brothers, sisters, and other loved ones at rest. For those that knew them both well, we can only imagine that Aunt Camille has been calling him daily (just not using the phone anymore!) over the past few months, just as she always had.

A tale for the ages and favorite of the grandkids, Mike Mione met the love of his life quite by accident. Marla was supposed to be meeting a blind date for the first time, and hopped into Mike's car by mistake. He took her on that date and the rest is history.

Mike's legacy is long and far-reaching. He is survived by his daughter, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who all loved him dearly. Mike most was most recently enjoying time with his granddaughter Ashley Hawkins and their family at their home in Florida. Respecting his wishes, no services are planned. In true Papa fashion, he specifically threatened to haunt several of us if we chose to go against his wishes and hold a memorial service ;) Mike Mione will be remembered by all who loved him for his warmth, humor, amazing stories, and his commitment to always being there for family, no matter what. The love and thoughtfulness he shared with those around him will never be forgotten, and will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew him.
