Michael Novotny Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 25, 2025.
After a brave fight against Alzheimer's Disease, Michael "Mike" A. Novotny, 80, of Oklahoma City, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on September 20, 2025.

Born in November 1944, near Tama, Iowa, "Mick", as he was called by his Iowa family, lived a full and spirited life, loving & playing sports of all kinds as a youth. During the Vietnam War, he served our country in the National Guard. Mick pursued a teaching degree at the University of Northern Iowa, ultimately teaching high school Distributive Education Classes of America (DECA) in Dubuque. A career change into sales management took him and his young family to Oklahoma City in 1980. After losing his beloved first wife, Pat, to cancer in 1984, the Lord kindly brought him Skeeter several years later. They recently celebrated their 31st wedding anniversary.

Mike's deep love for the game of golf found him enjoying time on the course whenever weather permitted. Before his illness set in, he proudly served several terms as the president of the Oklahoma Senior Golf Association. He was also an excellent bowler! Once, in a two-week period, he got a hole in one on the golf course (his third one!) ...and the next week, he bowled a 300 (and not the first time for this either!). Mikey loved his cars and road trips-always trying to take a new or scenic route, whether just around town or crossing the country. Ever and always present was his deep, lifelong loyalty to the Iowa Hawkeyes. Go Hawks!

Mikey was known for his happy spirit, and his broad smile with a dimple on each cheek. He was never quite able to remember the joke's punchline, but boy did he love trying. His goofy sense of humor earned him the name Goober by his daughters, a nickname that captured his lighthearted nature and ability to bring smiles wherever he went.

Michael leaves a legacy cherished by his wife Minnetta "Skeeter" Hall; daughters Terri Comer (Lynn) and Kara Curtis (Ted); stepsons Chris Hall (Mayte) and Scott Hall (Pam); grandchildren Katelynn Curtis and William Curtis; and numerous step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife Patricia Ann Novotny (d. 1984) and his parents Alan & JoAnn Novotny.

A man who brought laughter and warmth into every heart he touched, Mikey will be deeply missed. May his memory bring a smile to those who knew him.

A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, October 2, 2025, at 10:00AM in the Chapel at Crossings Community Church - 14600 N Portland, Oklahoma City.

Live streaming available for those who cannot attend in person.

As a friend and neighbor, Mike is always the type of friend a man hopes for in life and we were extremely fortunate to have known and love him and Skeeter both. We´ll miss his humor, candor, advice, and company. Sometimes you meet someone, and you just know you´ve hit the mark of life, and Mike was that man. My soul is happy that Mike is waiting for us in Heaven with out Father and his friends and family, and we will miss him until we meet again.
