I first met Mike as my brothers first roommate at EKU.He was funny, smart as whip and tutor to me as struggled in chemistry. He became my big brother and knew what his response would be to every subject matter. And true Is connoisseur of pure grain mixology. I hadnt spoke to him since my daughter was little and he was in Pompino Beach, he was still the wonderful funny guy I grew to love. I regret not keeping tabs on him, but he knew I loved him like my own blood. Rest in Peace my dear friend

My brother and I were a little over a year apart. So you can imagine who my best friend was growing up. We did a lot of things together including getting into a lot of trouble. But Alan showed me that you can be whatever you want to be in life and whatever you choose in life it should make you happy.
He was the most amazing brother, I'm so very proud of him for all the work he's done. He has touched so many peoples lives.
We had a special bond he let me in his world and I was so honored to be a part of that world...to know all his friends, to see the kind of love that everyone should know. Nitro and my brother had that kind of love that everyone wants to find...Nitro is the other half of a very special coin...I pray that no one forgets the love Alan had for others, the faith he had for everyone, the joy he brought to so many and we can't forget the laugh...
The laughter that would fill a room.
Where ever you are in life, where ever you end up just know he is with you always. Someone like Alan will never go away..
Love you little brother, My best friend

I knew him as "Mike" many, many years ago -before high school! It's nice to hear that his broad smile and laughter continued on throughout his life! That's how I remember him - always with a smile! I'm sorry I didn't know him as an adult - I'd like to think we would have been friends. My condolences to his partner, his family, and friends.

I've known Alan since he was the CDC Grant Coordinator in Broward County, Florida. He was happy to do whatever he could to assist me when I began my job as the coordinator at the State level. That was Alan, always ready to joyfully provide instruction and help where it was needed. I'll miss hearing his voice and his laughter.

I worked with Alan for more than three years in the Division of Adolescent and School Health (DASH), and found him incredibly caring, focused and professional. He was enthusiastic about the work he was doing, and was willing to take time and collaborate with others to make sure that things got done the right way.

Alan was always happy to stop and say hi in the hallway or the breakroom and to participate in workgroups that helped the entire division. He brought so much value to our organization and will be sorely missed.

I did not know him well, but you didn't have to. His warmth and sincerity reached out to you whenever you were in his proximity. His laugh said it all. You can't fake that kind of love of life. His passing has left a huge hole in the Atlanta area. But he has a beautiful legacy. Not many of us can say that. My deepest sympathies to his family and friends. I pray for peace and comfort for you during this time.

Alan was one of the most kind and gentle souls I ever had the privilege to know. He had a laugh that filled a room, a love of life that was contagious, and a way of making you feel safe and better just by being near. The world is a better place because he was in it, and those he touched will not forget him. He changed us for the better.

I have lost the most wonderful friend a man could ask for. Alan only shook your hand once, when he met you. After that, greetings and farewells were accompanied by a bear hug. I'm going to miss those so much.

What a complete shock to learn the sad news of Alan's passing. I have known Dr. Michael Alan Penrod for over 15 years. We met when he worked in Broward County Schools. At that time he was known as Mike and was half of the team of Mike & Mike that oversaw Sex Education for Broward Schools. Our relationship continued in his role at CDC, no known as Alan. What a larger than life figure, the baritone voice, that booming laugh and ear to ear smile, as well as a wealth of knowledge on education, health and evaluation topics. You will be sorely missed. Cheers to someone I am proud to have called colleague and friend!

I've known Michael Alan for many years, even though we haven't interacted much over the last few years since we both moved to different cities. What a wonderful man and what a huge loss! I will miss him. My deepest wishes of comfort and peace go out to his partner and the rest of his family.

I'm attaching a photo of Alan and other members of the church we all attended together. Taken in Ft. Lauderdale, FL about 20 years ago.

We knew Alan when he lived here in Ft. Lauderdale and attended the Body of Christ Church. He was as the obituary says always ready to help and would do anything for his friends and for the church. We are saddened at his passing, but look forward to seeing him again when we all meet in heaven to praise the name of Jesus.
