The eldest of my brothers ; gone at much too young an age

One short year ago, you shared my table for Thanksgiving
Sit now at the tables of our, and THE fathers

An even shorter six months ago, I asked for a promise
Your un-assuring answer.......
It troubled me then. It haunts me now. Forever will.....

The doubts ; the questions ; the "what-ifs"
Ponderings ; discussions......lasting the rest of my natural life

Your love of life ; your incredibly-gifted sense of humor ; the penchant for unabashed adventure

Dedication to, and love for, your family in Colorado
A constant force in ours, even from many miles away

The ability to light up a room ; to make us laugh - often to tears
So very "center stage", yet so unassuming - all at once.

May the fond memories always serve to overshadow the grief ; the hopeless, helpless sense of loss

An integral piece of our family puzzle has been lost forever
Beloved brother....find now....YOUR.....peace

Uncle Mike......it's hard to not write something that sounds like it's coming off a hallmark card. But you meant so much to all of us. I hope you won't mind some sappy sentiments from your niece :) You are a most beloved uncle to me. You always made a point to keep in contact with me and I will forever deeply regret not returning the favor. Your ability to light up a room just by your smile, ( and that chuckle!) was a gift matched by no one. I always joked that your story telling was something magical. You could make us laugh so hard, tears would be streaming down our faces with a simple, random tale that, told by anyone else, would seem mundane. I'll never forget your bear hugs, they were made of the good stuff. The beach trips and the memories there. It's well known among family and friends that when "the uncles" come home, the family will gather you had better get your butt to the gathering because you'll surely miss out of good times if you don't. Your enthusiasm for holidays( and really any occasion) was always much appreciated and needed. At first, I felt that there was a dark spot where your light had been. But after you let Mommom know that wasn't the case, I realized I had been looking where you had left. And that your light hasn't gone from us, I had to simply look up instead of west, to see it. So now, we, your family, will now be telling your tales with tears in our eyes and a smiles on our faces. We will toast you and remember the man that smiled.

My dear brother Mike (aka Roon). Words cannot convey how deeply saddened I am. You left us far too soon. Your independence, your sense of humor, your spontaneity, your love towards us, and your drive to always find another reason for us to get together will forever be missed.
