Michael Quante Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 4, 2025.
Heaven gained a remarkable soul on December 31, 2024, as Michael "Mike" Harvey Quante passed into eternity. Known to family and friends as a "true American with a really BIG sense of humor to share," Mike made an indelible mark on the world with his unmatched artistic talents, his noteworthy career in the sign-making business, and his unwavering love for God, his family, friends, and animals. His ability to fix just about anything was only surpassed by his capacity to make people laugh-often with a sharp wit and an irreverent twist that left everyone in stitches.

Born on August 30, 1957, in Bowie, Texas, to the late O'Dell Quante and Carmelita Peoples, Mike's distinctive red hair became a hallmark of his personality. As a young boy, he would spend hours flattening it with books, ensuring every strand was perfectly in place. His childhood was filled with laughter, largely thanks to his infectious humor. He was a beloved sibling to Kathy (deceased), Anthony, Chris, and Linda, always brightening their lives with his jokes and playfulness. His affectionate nickname "Mickey Bubbles," was earned for his bubbly personality as a baby-a nickname that stuck with him throughout his life. Mike's early years were spent in North Texas, later he moved to San Antonio, where his presence could be felt from a mile away-especially when he was cruising the streets in his iconic purple Dodge Challenger. After graduating from Texas State Technical Institute in Waco in 1980, Mike started his own sign company, 'Signs and Designs' in 1982. Several years later his brother Chris partnered with him and their company had a reputation for excellence. Mike crafted stunning works of art for major clients, including Fiesta Texas, Sea World, and more. One of his proudest accomplishments was being sought out by Anheuser-Busch to hand paint life-sized replicas of the infamous Budweiser Clydesdales. Mike continued to use his talents throughout his life as he designed and installed signs.

While his career was impressive, Mike found his greatest joy in the outdoors. Whether at the deer lease or lake, he cherished the serenity of nature and loved sharing those experiences with friends and family. His love for hunting, cooking, and storytelling made every gathering an occasion to remember. His passion for sports and his natural athleticism (particularly in basketball and tennis) were integral parts of his life, shaping who he was and making him the loudest and proudest armchair quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys. You would often find him watching the 'Boys on Sunday evenings, but only if it was pre-recorded so he could fast-forward through those darn commercials and always with a 'Big Gulp' cup in hand.

Above all, Mike treasured his role as a father to Michael, Tiffany, and Matthew, and as a proud "Poppie" to his grandchildren. He was a man of simple pleasures-proud of a perfectly cooked ribeye (medium rare, of course), a delectable homegrown tomato, always ready for cheesecake and chicken-fried steak, and had an unyielding love for extra sauce. "Just go ahead and bring an extra container of sauce, please."

Mike's warmth, humor, and love will be deeply missed, but his legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him, as well as on his Facebook page where he loved to share his humor with the world. He was truly one of a kind-a blessing to all-and will forever be remembered as our legendary "Mickey Bubbles," "Big Dad the good guy."

Mike was preceded in death by his sister, Kathy King; father, O'Dell Quante; stepfather, Jack Peoples; and nephew, Ryan King. He is survived by his children Michael (Erika) Quante, Tiffany Quante, and Matthew (Natalie) Quante; grandchildren Eric (Erica), Rylee, Perie, Jack Ryan, Harry, and Chloe; and most recent addition, great-grandchildren twins Mason and Axis; mother, Carmelita Peoples; siblings Anthony (Missy) Quante, Chris Quante, and Linda Quante (Paul Rheudasil); brother-in-law Pat (Christie) King; as well as several nieces and nephews who he dearly loved.

Mike's Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, January 11th at 11a.m. at CrossBridge Community Church, 25700 Overlook Pkwy, San Antonio, TX 78260. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to ABODE Contemplative Care for the Dying, where Mike spent his final days surrounded by his loved ones. https://abodehome.org/donate/
