Michael Read Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 22, 2025.
Michael Alan Read, 60 of Ponder, TX passed away on January 15, 2025 while vacationing at his favorite spot in Mexico.

Michael was born on July 27, 1964, in East Stroudsburg, PA, to Roberta Bush Hamilton and Richard Read Sr. He moved to Texas in September 2004 after marrying the love of his life, Jennifer, on July 3, 2004.

Mike began his career with The Trade Group in November 2005. During his nearly 20 years there, he advanced from working in the custom shop building boxes and programming, to becoming a Procurement and Inventory Lead. Over the years, Mike became the go-to person for anyone needing advice or guidance. At work, the common phrase was, "Go ask Mike." He will be greatly missed by his many co-workers.

Mike had a passion for cooking, baking, spending time with family, and traveling to new destinations. He enjoyed grocery shopping on weekends-an activity most people dislike-and looked forward to these outings with Jennifer and Hanah. Every vacation destination included a tour of the local grocery stores, which Mike insisted on exploring. He was extremely dedicated to everything he touched, devoted to his family, and always willing to lend a helping hand. His quirky, snarky sense of humor will be deeply missed.

Mike "Big Daddy" Read is survived by his wife of 20 years, Jennifer Read; children: Michael Alan Read Jr. and spouse Andrew, Randi Hawkins and spouse Dave, Lilian McNair and fiancé Gavin, Zachary Read, and Hanah McNair and partner Maddy; grandchildren: Violette and Davina; siblings: Rose Sawyer, Rebecca Frederick, and Kristina Penta and spouse Gary. He is also survived by many other dear friends, family, and co-workers.

He was preceded in death by his son, Andrew Michael Read; mother, Roberta Elitia Bush Hamilton; brother, Richard Read Jr.; and grandparents, William and Mary Bush and Betty and Earl Bertholf.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on January 27, 2025, at 12:30 PM at the VFW Post 10460, located at 501 Thompson Dr., Lake Dallas, TX 75065. Friends and family will gather to share memories, enjoy a meal, and fellowship together.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all the friends and loved ones who have helped them navigate this difficult time. Mike will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him and will remain forever in our hearts.
