Michael Reynolds Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 7, 2025.
Michael J. Reynolds, Sr., 57, of Chenango Forks, NY, passed peacefully in the early morning hours of Saturday, August 30, 2025, in Queens, New York, after a long and brave battle with ALS.

Born on May 31, 1968, in Johnson City, NY, Michael was the beloved son of Kathleen M. and John G. Reynolds. He graduated from Maine-Endwell Senior High School in 1987 and spent most of his life in the greater Binghamton and Johnson City area.

Michael was a man of many talents and passions. He earned accreditation as a Graphic Designer and used his creative skills to help clients develop marketing strategies through original videos, catchy mottos, and eye-catching animations. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to co-found a drone business with his sons, focusing on real estate marketing and helping clients elevate their sales approach through innovative aerial imagery. In later years, he discovered a love for writing and immersed himself in the craft with the same enthusiasm he brought to all his endeavors.

Michael's greatest legacy emerged following his diagnosis with ALS ten years ago. Faced with unimaginable challenges, he responded not only with courage but with compassion for others navigating the same path. He became a source of strength and encouragement within the ALS community-raising awareness, offering support, and forging meaningful connections that transcended his own struggle. Even as the disease took his voice, Michael found ways to communicate hope and humor. Through social media, he shared comical moments and uplifting messages that reminded everyone he was still fighting-and still believing in himself and those around him.

He was predeceased by his father, John G. Reynolds, and his daughter Ashley. He is survived by his two sons, Michael Jr. (Ashley) and Anthony, both of North Carolina; his cherished granddaughter Emma Grace; his mother Kathleen Reynolds of Vestal, NY; two sisters: Lisa Merritt (Michael Kneebis) of Chenango Forks, NY; and Jill (Jeffrey) Rounds of Horseheads, NY; one brother: Mark (Jennifer) Reynolds of Newtown Square, PA; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Michael also leaves behind three very special friends-Joseph Skrabalak, Debra Cardone, and Maria Million-whose presence enriched his life deeply.

A heartfelt tribute must be made to Kristin Oliver of the Shady Strong organization. Kristin played an instrumental role in Michael's journey by providing him with tools to maintain communication when ALS took away his voice. Her unwavering support ensured that Michael never faced his battle alone. Her compassion and dedication will never be forgotten.

Per Michael's wishes, plans for remembrance will be private and held at the convenience of the family.

In honor of Michael's memory and enduring spirit, donations may be made to the ALS Foundation.

Michael Reynolds will be remembered for his resilience, creativity, humor, and above all else-his unwavering commitment to lifting others even while facing profound adversity. His legacy lives on in every life he touched.

Our heartfelt condolences to all that loved BiggMike
I stumbled upon BiggMike on FB one day , and started following him. What a gift it was to have him land in my path. I am five years in to caring for Jimmy who also got this death sentence of ALS. There were days I felt like walking away from being Jimmy´s caregiver and Mike would post something that he was going through and with his strength and determination and of course his humor, it would give me the courage to keep going. He was definitely a positive beacon in this house. we never met in person yet I felt like he was a true friend. I don´t consider him a fighter~ I consider him a leader with nothing but his eyes he inspired so many of us in the ALS community. May his family take comfort in knowing BiggMike was of great purpose in his darkest hours hear on earth. We love him dearly
My last text from him he shared his book titles , we would love to get one if they get through the editing process .
Sending lots of love to his family and all that cared for him on his journey home

Seems like yesterday we were teenagers walking home from the drive-in after Rocky III. We were all caught up by the triumph of a great American film, but Mike was the most enthusiastic shadow boxer of us all. Love you Big Mike. We'll shadow box again one day. Love you Reynolds family. May peace be with you all and all of your loved ones.
