He was preceded in death by his father, Oscar.
Survivors include his wife, Jolinda Riesland, of Council Bluffs; mother, Genelle Riesland, of Missouri Valley; sons, Nicholas Riesland and significant other, Shayna, of Council Bluffs, Joshua Riesland and fiancee, Jessica, of Council Bluffs; brothers, Bob Riesland and wife, Paula, David Riesland, both of Missouri Valley; and four grandchildren.
No visitation or viewing will be held. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, June 10, 2011, at the Hennessey-Aman Funeral Home in Missouri Valley. Inurnment Rose Hill Memorial Gardens in Missouri Valley.

Joy, Nick and Josh, just wanted to send my condolences to you and your family. Remember God only deals us what he knows we can handle. You are strong Joy and remember your kids and grandkids will help ease the pain and help you through this. Should you need someone you know any of us Shives' will be there to help you through.

To the family of Michael Riesland. Gladys and I are saddened at the loss of Mike. The loss of a husband,son or brother is very hard to deal with. The memories of such a nice and gentle soul will help heal the hurt that you feel now.We will always have fond memories of Mike.
