I won't be able to adequately say how much Mike (and Judy) have meant to my husband and I in this short space. Instead, I'm going to pay tribute to one of my favorite things about Mike--his insane ability to tell joke after joke after joke. I spent a good amount of time trying to remember them (and always failed). Here's one for you Mike. You will be terribly missed for your warmth, inspiration, originality, and humor.
A guy walked into a bookstore and asked the clerk where the self-help section was.
"I could tell you," she said, "but that would defeat the purpose."

I am proud and blessed to have known Mike. I never quite realized how wide his network of love and friendship really was - I do now. I especially remember the 70s when I lived in Thousand Palms for 6 years and he was always a part of my life - his visits to Charlie and Alice's house where I lived, the late nights at Roger and Griffin's place, and the house we both shared in the late 70s as we pondered our place in the universe. I watched him as he grew into a bilingual educator and fighter for social justice and always looked forward to my annual stays at his house when he and Andy and Jude and I philosophized about life. Wherever you may be now, happy trails brother. Jude – our hearts are with you. My deepest sympathies.

Judy and family, I was very sorry to hear about Mike's passing. He was a true advocate for workers and had a special passion for helping others. His leadership qualities inspired many others to get involved to promote positive change. He was a role model not only for the adults he worked with, but also the many students he interacted with while at CVHS. He will be missed.

My deepest sympathy goes out to the Rosenfeld family. I had the honor of being in Mr. Rosenfeld's class twice during high school and being his TA for a semester. He always wanted the best for his students, he knew how to motivate us, he knew which teaching method worked for each student, he provided unconditional support, all while teaching us World History and American History. I will always remember his parting words after class: "go on and be productive." I will miss him, but will remember him by modeling his unique teaching strategies in my classroom.

My condolences go out to Mr. Rosenfeld's family. He was always a source of solace in the vortex that teaching can be at times. His positive influence and radiance touched his students, colleagues, friends, and community. With his wry humor, he could joke you into seeing the positive side of an issue. He will be missed.

I had numerous interactions with Mike when he was the President of the teachers' union and I worked at the District Office. He was a consummate professional who always placed the needs of teachers and students foremost. I also remember Mike from the 60's when he worked at Leon's Mens Store in Palm Springs. A great guy.... Mike and I met when I was about ten. My father ran the recreation department in Mecca where Mike and I laughed and played for many summers. He taught me how to play chess, a feat that took a lot of patience. He remained a good friend through out the ages. In later years we corresponded about some deep spiritual issues involving the Old Testament, Jewish history, and the relevance of
Christ. I well remember meeting up with him at CVHS when he had a long flowing beard and clothing that didn't conform to local standards. What a sight. But we embraced in the middle of the street and reconfirmed the feelings and connections of all of our memories together. Talking with him at the 25th reunion of the class of 66 was one of the years high lights. My best to his family. I loved him in life, I love him in death.

Dear Mr. Rosenfeld. He has been an exacting teacher, a wise mentor, and such a kind, kind friend. He expected the best of us for he saw the very best of which we were capable. And he took it upon himself to put endless effort and heart into making each of us see it as well. We have been so very fortunate to have had Mr. Rosenfeld in our lives. He will be truly missed and deeply appreciated always.

I was very fortunate to know and work with Michael at CVHS.
His ability to teach children, not only lessons in the class, but
lessons in life. He was always cheerful, loved his wife, and
and was very proud of his garden.
Mike, I will miss you dreadfully; but I am so grateful I knew you.
I loved your stories about the Peace Corp...especially the one about
cheese. When I buy cheese, I will think of you. Love you, Nanne
Lynn, God is getting a great human being.

Our deepest condolences go out to you, Judy, family, and all those who knew Michael. I first met Mike at Mecca Elementary in the 5th grade. He was my friend. Though we grew apart with the years, we had some great times. The late 60's in Turkey while he was stationed in Izmir, in Palm Desert, where we shared my parents house and partied day and night. Mazeltoving at your wedding in Colton. Those were truely memorable times. I will always miss his sly smile and bright eyes. We have all suffered a great loss.

Mike was a friend of mine for over forty years, he and Judy attended my first wedding back in the 80"s.. My condolences go out to Judy and the Rosenfeld Family, I hope you find peace in the memories and good times spent with Mike. I recently spent a lot of time with Mike while we designed and built his casita and cabana. We bonded again, we talked , we laughed and shared many tales about our travels, the Universe and the mysteries of Life.
He was a gentleman and a scholar who set a fine example for his students at CVHS. I will miss him but I will find happiness in the memories. Mike, I'll see you again on the other side my friend!

Mr. Rosenfeld has been a positive motivating force in my life. The impact that he made transcended beyond the high school classroom. He empowered me to have an opinion on the means which we were taught, and that knowledge enables us to do something about it.

Mike: I have great memories of you back at CV High School from 1962 through 1966. You lived on Avenue 62 and I on Avenue 60 in Thermal - we shared many a ride together to school in those days, my friend. I was grateful to you for sharing your MAD magazines with me!! We communicated through the years - I greatly admired your life decision to return to the halls of CV High to teach where you were a wonderful inspiration to generations of Coachella Valley's kids.
We shared a common bondage through our involvement in the Union Labor Movement - a vocation which is and was
a unique dedication to one's peers.
I am diminised by your passing but am thankful for having shared a very nice friendship with you. I extend my condolences to your family.

We knew Mike as a gentle soul, a great family friend, gardner, nature enthusiast, all around good guy and a very giving person. Our family is blessed to have known him and to have shared some very nice time with Mike and Judy. He will be sorely missed, I am sure. However, when we look to the stars on a clear night, I am sure that Mike will be looking back and that he will send a twinkle our way to let us know he is happy and looking forward to seeing all of us again when it is our time to transition.

I am greatly saddened by Mikes death. He was one of those "very special people" who touched the lives of many. He seemed to have great appreciation of nature, people, especially children, life in general. He was interested and knowledgeable in many areas. I always envisioned Mike as he grew older, as a very wise, white haired, bearded little old man telling stories of his life and adventures to all that would listen. Oh.....and of course......a joke now and then. He left us all way too early. My heart goes out to Judy and all those close to him for such a huge loss.
