Michael Irwin Ruby
Michael Ruby, devoted husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones. A service and graveside burial were held at Herzl Memorial Park on Thursday, January 30, 2025. Michael was a man of many talents, known for his extraordinary building, fixing, and creating skills.
Michael was born on October 17th, 1938, to Tobia Brandwein and Leonard Ruby. Although he was born in Minneapolis, he spent most of his childhood in Denver, Colorado.
Michael attended Colorado University in Boulder, where he met and became engaged to Muriel Lampert of Mattoon, Illinois. Michael completed bachelor's degrees in engineering and business. Upon graduation, he was offered a job at Boeing, where he worked for 39 years until retirement. Michael was awarded many patents throughout his career.
Michael and Muriel married in Mattoon, Illinois, and camped across the US to Bellevue, Washington, where they bought a house and raised three daughters. Michael led an active lifestyle, enjoying camping and hiking with his family. He played basketball at the Jewish Community Center, golfed, played tennis, rode his bike, and ran outdoors. Even into his 80s, he maintained a regular exercise routine on his treadmill and exercise bike.
In his later years, Michael discovered a passion for intarsia, a woodworking art form. He crafted beautiful wood pictures for his daughters and grandsons, relishing the intricate process of creating 3D images from carefully cut, carved, and sanded pieces of wood.
Michael's greatest pride and joy were his grandchildren, Eli and Sam. After the passing of his wife Muriel in 2005, Michael made it his mission to support Eli and Sam in every way possible. He volunteered at their schools, helped with homework, assisted with Eagle Scout projects, and tutored them in college math. Known as "Pops" to his grandsons, Michael was dedicated to teaching them the values of love and responsibility. His encouragement and support were unwavering, and he cherished the bond he shared with them. Unsurprisingly, Eli and Sam chose computer sciences and mechanical engineering as their vocations, inspired by their grandfather's legacy.
Michael's life was a testament to his dedication to family, craftsmanship, and joyful spirit. He leaves a legacy of love, laughter, and the countless memories he created with his family and friends. He will be deeply missed by all who know him.
Michael is survived by his daughters Karen Ruby, Laura Ruby (spouse Ken Nakata), and Leah Ruby, as well as grandsons Eli and Sam Arao.
