I took two Courses with Father Scanlon: Christian Anthropology and Religious Language. He was a marvelous speaker and a gifted teacher, very intense in his delivery. He enjoyed connecting the dots between Augustine and Plato.

Michael Scanlon was as the saying goes: "a gentlemen and a scholar." However, he was much more for the many who were his students, his friends, and his colleagues in the pursuit of deep truths about the divine presence in humanity.

Mike was s serious theologian, gifted with wonderful skills as a teacher and preacher. He was skilled in explaining the theologian Karl Rahner's meaning of the "supernatural existential," and how it related to " Christian Anthropology." Most of all, he communicated how humanity is touched by grace.

He was Father Scanlon to most, a wonderful priest, but Mike to close friends and students, who were many.

Mike loved a good joke, laugh, and to facilitate bringing old friends to meet his new ones.

Mike will be missed but always close to those, like myself, who knew and loved him. His legacy will live on in the minds and hearts of those he touched with his warmth, wit, and wisdom.

Condolences to the Scanlon family.
Although I never had the opportunity to meet Michael, if he was anything like his brother Matthew, he must have been a remarkable teacher and person.

One of the best minds in theology I ever had in class. Rest in Peace Michael.
