Michael SENNA Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 5, 2011.

SENNA, Michael Lawrence
Out beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed into the loving arms of God on May 21, 2011, at the age of 64. Born and raised in Sacramento, Mike grew up in River Park, and was in the first graduating class at St. Mary's Elementary school and in the last co-ed graduating class of Bishop Armstrong. In 1967, he married Janis Fisher, his bride of 43 years and mother to their three children. Mike graduated from the Highway Patrol Academy in 1968, and served in various places throughout the state. He retired as Asst. Chief of Valley Division in Sacramento in 2002. He also is a graduate of the National FBI Academy. An avid hunter and outdoorsmen for most of his life, one of Mike's favorite places to sit was around a campfire. His humor and storytelling were two of his most memorable and endearing qualities. He and Janis enjoyed towing their trailer on road trips and being with good friends - golfing, hiking, playing cards, and enjoying the good life together. As a father, husband, and 'Pop,' he was committed to his family. He is survived by his wife, Janis (Fisher) and father-in-law, Bud Fisher; three children, Stacy, Courtney, Matthew, son-in-law Josh, and daughter-in-law Danielle; and two grandchildren, Ruby and Benjamin. Funeral services will be private. There will be a gathering of family and friends at Vince's Restaurant in Elk Grove on June 17 from 1- 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family has asked that remembrances be made to the California Highway Patrol's 11-99 Foundation, or the charity of your choice.

Sgt. Senna taught our vehicle code CHP Academy Class CTC-V-82 where we graduated March 3, 1983. He was known for interjecting humor into a serious subject. I remember one time I asked him a question about what code section to use if a farm labor bus that was towing a portable toilet behind it for the farm workers was found to be exceeding the 55 MPH speed limit. From that day forward, he "affectionately" referred to me as "Cadet Tidy Bowl".

Dear Jan: Mike taught vehicle code training at the Academy when I was going through in 1982. He took a very dull subject and made it interesting and entertaining. We never crossed paths after that, but I remember him as a warm person with a great sense of humor. My sincere condolences to you and the entire family. Mike was a good man and one hell of a highway patrolman. Mark

Janny

I am very proud to have known Mike and to have him as a part of our family. I have always held him in very high regard in his personal and professional life.

The amount of courage and strength that he portrayed throughout this whole ordeal speaks volumes about his character.

He was a good man and I will miss him.

Dear Jan,
I remember when we all first met through the CHP in Santa Cruz...and then again a few years later as neighbors in Sacramento. I remember all the of fun filled week-ends we spent hanging out at the Rosemont Cabana Club/Swim Team and Rosemont Soccer Club. Good times with a whole lot of very fond memories of you & Mike and all the kids.
Please know you and your entire family are in our thoughts & prayers.

With love & our deepest sympathy,
John & Kathy Myers (Vancouver, WA)
