Michael Sivak Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 11, 2024.
Michael Sivak, a beloved father, devoted believer, and proud Vietnam veteran, peacefully passed away on April 22nd, 2024, at the age of 75. His life was defined by resilience, strength, and an unwavering faith-qualities that left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him. Michael is laid to rest in Concordia Cemetery, joining his brother Roger and parents, Elmer and Irene Sivak.

A dedicated U.S. Marine Corps veteran, Michael served his country with valor and carried a quiet strength that extended far beyond his years in the military. His experiences in Vietnam instilled in him a deep compassion and humility that made him a pillar in his community. After his service, Michael worked as a BP Amoco Research Lab Technician, where he contributed to future research with dedication and skill.

In 2014, Michael was diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer. Yet, in a testament to his extraordinary resilience, he lived another ten years, inspiring others with his determination and grace. Throughout his illness, he remained a source of warmth and kindness, treating everyone as if they were family. In retirement, he found joy in simple pleasures-savoring his favorite coffee ice cream or chocolate-covered cherries, and watching Westerns like Gunsmoke, which brought him comfort and nostalgia.

Michael had a gift for making everyone feel welcomed and loved, whether through his gentle humor, kindness, or genuine interest in others. As his daughter recalls, "Growing up, my father was always kind-hearted, supportive, and funny, even as he faced his own struggles. He was always there for me, joining in whatever adventure I dreamed up-whether it was playing Wii, bowling, watching movies, or trying any sport. His love was boundless and unwavering."

Throughout his life, Michael's faith in God was his anchor. He leaned on it for strength through triumphs and hardships alike, especially during his illness, facing each challenge with grace and unbreakable resilience. He became a beacon of hope and strength, inspiring those around him to carry on with courage and compassion.

Michael is survived by his daughters, Jessica and Payton Sivak; his brother, Jeffrey Sivak; and his sisters, Kathryn "Kitty" Evert and Roberta "Bobbie" Lauer. They will forever carry forward his legacy of love, resilience, and faith. Though he may no longer be with us, his memory and the lessons he imparted will continue to guide us.

Mike and I were classmates from Highland High School and I have fond memories of him. I just learned of his passing today and am so sorry I did have the opportunity to talk with him. The last visit we had was before our 50th class reunion when I was trying to convince him to attend. My prayers go out to his surviving family . Mike was a great guy and I'm sure he is missed by many. Rest in Peace Mike.
